My '97 with carb 454 mags got 66-67 gps every day, 69.1 was the best I ever got out of her.

The 31ss is called the "Hardbody" for good reason. The boat is built like a rock. Fantastic in big (5'+) water.

Of course it was a 31 footer that won the 271 mile Don Aronow Memorial Around Long Island race last September.

There was a new 4 engine 52 foot deep V Outerlimits and a 50 foot Outerlimits cat entered in the race. Hurricane Igor was sweeping up the east coast and another race group canceled their race that weekend because it ...."was too rough".

In the end one boat finished...the 31 Sonic. BTW, that boat had small blocks and saw mid to high 60 MPH speeds. Your big block boat should see the same. (The race boat was stripped of any extra weight.)

Race boat?!! Charlie it's the very same boat I take to Block Island and Newport and weekend in (of course i put the v berth cushions back in) I like to think of it as a sport-utility boat!
Race boat-express cruiser- poker runs-run to block for lunch from Ct river with my 10 year old daughter.
It is a tough boat and have seen some very big water in the past 10 years

Hey come on.....I have a racing reputation to uphold. On that particular day, it was a finely tuned and stripped of any excess weight...RACE BOAT. Would I go on any other type of boat??

All the other days.... it is the fine all around cruiser that you describe.

You are correct sir! A race boat it was, time to start wrenching on it for spring.

I still think 64 would be tops on a good day. The boat is 11 years old how old are the motors? How many hours? Boats gain weight with age like women.
