Default Sonic 31ss 2001 engine doesn't want to start, fuel pump issue?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs some help, I have twin 454's on my 2001 ss, and after running my boat for a short time, or a longtime and shutting boat off my left motor doesn't want to restart. (The boat has 400 hours on motors). I will attempt to start and it may take a few tries or 30 minutes, but it will fire up eventually. My rpm gauge for left motor differs over a1000rpms when I throttle up, but catches back up once I get on plane. I have cool fuel system just pulled it off and am going to replace fuel pump, is this the culprit? Also should I replace fuel regulator as well while I have it out? Any help or experience with this problem would help . Also planning to replace plugs and wires couse my top end speed is suffering.

It sounds like an ignition problem to me. Good luck.

Pull the cap off, check out the cap and rotor. If corroded, replace.

How old is the fuel? Reason I ask is that ethanol starts breaking down after 3 weeks. My boat last year done the same thing pretty much acted like it was vapor locking but once I ran the old fuel from the winter storage out it was fine.

Swap the coils on the motors and see if the problem goes to the other motor. Coil on my Scarab 454 was bolted right to the back of the port head. Bad juju! Heat and vibration will degrade or kill a coil, especially the old round car type coils. Now I have the MSD coil off the motor and mounted to the transom.
