When I bought my Scarab 22 in 2003 the trim indicator did not work. So I bought a new sending unit and replaced it. Worked fine for that year, however, the next year it failed again. So I took it apart and water had leaked into it. So I got another sending unit and took it apart. I thought, well, if they put a little grease on the contacts to prevent corrosion, I should be able to pack the whole unit with grease and stop any water intrusion. It did. That same sending unit has been on the Scarab since 2004 and still works.
So when I got the Prowler, the trim indicator did not work. Found out the problem was the sending unit was out of adjustment. So I removed it anyway and opened it up. No water and the conatcts were good so I packed it with grease and anticipate I should not have to replace it.
If you do this, I suggest you do the OD limit switch also.
FWIW!
