Havent gotten a good day with smooth water and good air to make another run at top end. Ive had to pull up at 70 each time. Im also having issues with oil coming out of the breathers. Im installing different design ones tonight. Maybe this weekend Ill be able to make a top speed run. Ill def post my numbers when I beat 70.6. I know shes got more left in her.

45Tripps 07-14-2011 03:53 PM

Why is everyone so fascinated with top end max speed ? There is someone always faster, and it takes a ton of $$$$$ to get a few more mph. Isnt 50-60mph cruise fast enough for most guys ?

Just a question, no offense meant. Good luck in your pursuit. Im quite happy at 50-60mph crusie and Im not hurting anything cruising at that speed.

Too hard on the equipment, water conditions change, among other potential issues hammering on it hard.

Again, no offense meant, just my perspective and opinion.

I'll sit back and let you guys pass me I guess.....

sonic 07-16-2011 02:35 PM

A lot of time its the last guy to the bar pays.So in my case its cheaper to make the boat faster then it is to buy lunch for a group of guys every weekend. And i myself like the rush of the speed.

80 is possible with a Prowler. This is a picture I took of the dash while the hubby was playing going along. This is a big block with 250 blower, and yes it only has a stock bravo outdrive. The boat is a 98, we have had since new. Prop was a 28 Bravo labbed my merc. HP unknown.....

while your in comfort while sipping a drink out of crystal glass haha a 45 is a nice ride. I raced a 35 while I was in my 24ol back before step hulls my 24 was fast for my area 76 then, so when these guys cruised by I nailed it we were in 2 to 4s. they ran by us them slowed to stay 100ft in front/side of me. the crew on his boat were drinking drinks while we got bouced around haha. I found out he had 850s and would run mid 80s. I have been building a 28 saber with DEAN GELLNER power big and hope to hit a 100, even though any time my wife is with me it will be around 45 to 70. I could of bought a 33 to 38 sonic or cig that ran in the 60s to 70s. but I love speed. going a 120 to 140 in my friend gerrys 46 skater is awesome my boat running 85 to 100 will be better to me. I lve the boucing around even though I just had 8 operations in the last 6 years, one on the 7th and may have 3 more this winter or more. before getting into hi pow boats in 1990. I used to race and ride bikes and 4x4 trucks offroad . I love the thrill of bouncing around even though now I am all busted up plus my work had to do with my knees.I just hope I can finish this boat in the next few weeks. some nights I wish I bought a boat that was running and bigger in size. well we'll see in a few weeks, and I planned for a may dunk this year.

5300 you should be about 74, you got high slip with the 26, my 26 was labbed my slip was good around 12%, Brett at bblades might get that down on slip and up on speed for yah.

my 509 is close to what you have but I picked up more speed and rpms with a 1050 nickerson carb over my bg 850, also if you use a box you need to mont it up a 1'' if you can cause a 2'' shortie will =1'' with a box. not sure if I posted this yet its late. may 509 peak power is 6100rpm so I would prop it for 5800. my 572 is max was still climbing at 6500rpm,but I will prop it between 6000 and 6400. thats where the rev chip is. both builders of these to motors said to keep it close max power. a 26 b1 with 1.50 gears and slip around 14% should get you 80 at 5800rpms28 at 5400.

Like others have said 80s is not to much of a problem in the prowlers bt at that speed with that hull its a drivers boat...Mr noise pollution if you didnt come off as such a azz with me on my mph i would for sure have got in touch with you and had giving you all the specs on my boat.Butttttt thats not the case.Im very sorry about you not getting the speed out of your boat that you want.lbut thats no reason to pick on me .I also have had a very hard time getting my boat to where it is now and it would not be there without the help i got from a few friends.trust me for what i have tied up in my boat i could have had morgan build me a new 277 and have money left over.haha i love to learn the hard way.So with that being said good luck to you and im sure you will get your boat in the 80s but it will take a few more dollars and some time but you will get it.

how true after I bought my konrad ace and had my blower motor built, a fellow boater lowered the price of his 05 800hp 31footer for what I payed for them. and I didn't have the saber yet. but I couldn't afford to give away my stuff for his. in the long run my drive is better motor too. boats should be about the same, but I have 300 plus more hp.:coolcowboy:

I know all about that.Between motor/drive i think im around $35.000 . Going fast is not cheap thats for sure.I have tried just about every motor sport and the boat and racin diesel trucks are about the same in price.I thought 9 sec street car was hard on the wallet that wasnt ****.

Mr Sonic, Im sorry if you thought i was an ass. But If I read your post correctly you are pushing 50 more hp than me. I just don't see how you got 10 mph out of that unless there is a big weight difference between our boats. If I had the time, I would take you up on the ride offer. I did talked to Brett at the Miami show this year. I love the boat, but don't think its worth putting any more money into. A lot of boats out there that would easly run in the mid 80's with the same power.

Noise Pollution 08-05-2011 08:58 PM

drive height, having your motor tuned on the water= right jets and carb. my 509 was 8 mph faster with a imco shortie and going to a 1050 dom. even thought the dyro showed only 15 hp different.

sonic 08-16-2011 06:54 AM

My boat has had a few different set ups.A handful of different engines is been super charged injected carbed you name it.It didnt come easy for me.For what i spent on the motor/drive i could have bought a older boat that was twice as fast. But that would be no fun.Theres alot more to a boat then just the engine also.Tabs, drive i.t.s etc.

Thanks Pete, I am sorry for the dreamin remark, I acted in hast when I first read your post. There is a ton of great info on this site, and thats what we are here for to help each other out. I'll give you a call.
For all the other prowler owners, I just put 30 in tabs on mine and it made a world of difference in rough and snotty water. I was able to cruise at 50 and never broke the prop free.
Mike

Good luck in your pursuit of speed. Be careful with those long tabs on the 26. Could be a handfull if you put down too much tab and bury the bow, especially if the rough. Im sure your aware of this. Nothing more than 280 tab size are recommended on most anything under 35'.

Down side I still have the Bennett cylinders on . So they are slow reacting. Im gonna put better cylinders on over the wint. Don't really need much pass netual.

Magothy River.....

Noise Pollution 10-19-2011 06:49 PM

I been testing a 2" shorty the past two weekends. Main concern in the mid range where I cruise.
With a 26 bravo on std. drive .
47mph @3800, 50@4000 ninety percent of the time.
With the Shorty running a bravo 28
47-50@3600 depending on water conditions
53-55@3800
57@4000. even saw 60 a few times@4000
72@wot. Not much gain at the top.
I had installed 30" tabs using the Bennet cylinders. Problem is they don't retract high enough. Probably scrubing a little speed. So far Im really happy with what i've seen.

rangerrick63 10-20-2011 10:42 AM

I had heard that you were doing some testing...
Was waiting to see your results...I have to say, I like the results. Like you, I'm more interested in the mid-range performance. I do like those numbers...:drink:
I'd like to see how it does with a 5 blade.

How is it getting on plane?

Noise Pollution 10-20-2011 03:11 PM

No problem getting on plane. Gets up at 2800rpm.

creeper 12-20-2011 01:27 PM

Rick,I know you get some nice numbers for your setup....:D

Mike,I told you to put bigger tabs on years ago....:p

Hope alls well....
