Need info on 28SS
#1
I've discovered a 2002 28SS for sale by a private owner in MD. I only know the basics now and am awaiting a call back from the seller. What I do know is it has 16 hrs on the engines which are twin SB Scorpions and is in immaculate shape with Myco trailer.
Before I talk to the seller I wanted to know what came standard and optional so I can figure some kind of value. Since SonicUSA doesn't sell the 28SS anymore, does anyone have a brochure they could scan for me?
I've read through all the posts debating the differences between the 26/28/31 SS models. I like the 31ss, but if I can get a kick ass deal, then I may seriously think about the this 28SS. More for resale value if I kept it a year or two. I like the idea of having all newer stuff on a 2002 vice buying a bigger boat in the mid 1990s.
I believe it has the pull out section between the couches. Does anyone know if an adult can sleep there or at least a 6 yr old kid? My intention is to cruise around the Chesapeake Bay and anchor out on weekends.
All comments/thoughts welcome.

A 6 year old can definately sleep there on that pull out. If you look at the option lists for the 26 and 31 they are about the same as what you have. If you call and talk to Frank at OP I bet he still has some hard copy docs of the 28SS brochure on hand. I will look tomorrow as I am packing to move.
Shorepower, pump out head, pull out sleeper, boarding ladder, K-Planes, mufflers or Corsa Captain's Call, electic bolsters, GPS, VHF, fridge, are all options easy to spot.
I am not sure if AC, Hot Water, Heat, or what else may have been available, but just see if the boat fits what you want to do. It sounds like you have found a sweet boat and I am willing to bet that Frank sold the boat originally. That thing sounds awesome if it has twin 377ci 350HP Blue Scorpions in it. (Regular 6.2MPIs are black and only have 320HP.) K-Planes, dual batteries, and external hydraulic steering are musts in my opinion. The Blue Scorpion motors are BADASS, orginally built for ski boats by Mercury Racing.
Check under the v-birth matress for signs of any leakage from the bow light. (Mine leaked and filled up the front speaker compartment.)
Good Luck. Where in MD is it? I am going to be bogged down until after Christmas, but I can check it out with you if you like. You are not buying it without a sea trial. If he is serious about selling it, he will de-winterize it for you, or hold your deposit and not pursue other sales until you sea trial.

Here you go.... http://www.ecmbinc.com/html/sonic4_28ss.htm
One item to keep in mind, I could be totally wrong, but I believe I remember the scorpion motors needing high octane fuel to run. No regular grade.... Would mean a bigger bill at the pumps... something to think about.... looks and sounds like a great motor, I have no experience with them.... Good luck!!!

Thanks ECB and Sydwayz.
I talked to the seller late last night. He's a certified merc mechanic and just started his own business www.jaysmarineservice.com. This site is under construction and is pretty slow. The sonic in question is at the bottom with the yellow/black checkered flag design.
It's pretty loaded, has 21 hrs on the scorpions. He did buy it from OP, but needs to sell it to buy a 30 some center console fountain to use for towing and fishing.
He wants to sell for his loan payoff, but he didn't have that number last night. Estimated $110K, but don't hold him to that. He will sea trial the boat ...if it's not snowing!
Anyway, it's out of my price range. I'm looking for something used in the $70-80K range.

Price seems way out there, maybe the motors pushed it that high... Check with Offsore Performance, they're great people!!! I was down there several weeks ago for a demo and I believe they had a newer model and a mid 90's model....28ss. And some 31's.... I was interested in a blue/yellow 2002 31 they just brought in off trade..... they never got back to me, so they must have sold it....
I've got a great trailer for sale that would fit a 28ss nicely.... check the classifieds for fast load 29-31... It's brand new..... I was going to put a 29 powerquest on it.... then I drove the boat...
