1 foot!!! I don't know for sure but it will help if we know the years that you are looking at for our .02
The boat is a -89.
I really don't know about the one's that old, but it might just be that they revamped the cabin or cockpit and changed the # if the boat was a 34'6" and they changed everything on the inside they call it a 35 so people knew it was a diff. boat. I don't think they would make a whole new boat only one foot longer, but you may want to talk to them or some of the old school sonic guy's. I know on the new one's the 45&42 have the same cabin the 45 is just bigger in the cockpit so it fit's trip's better. the 386&358 have the same cabin but you can put trip's or a gen. in the 386, and I think the 31&28 have the same cabin.
Kind of like my 30ss. LOA is 30.5'. Then they came out with a 31ss.
I don't think there is much different, except the Mod#. |
LOR is right about it all except the 31 and 28 cabins, they're different. The 26 & 28 cabins were very close, but I don't think identical.

I would bet that a 34 SS is the same as my 35 SS. Although I have never seen one. Does it have an integrated swim platform?
I just looked at the trader online site they only have one 34ss in there and no inside pics, if that is the one you are looking at, I would go with the a newer 31 with better power. For about the same money. They have a 94 with 502-415 efi witch is a lot nicer than the 454 365 the 34ss has. I don't think you will have much of a diff. in ride, newer is almost aways better when it come's to boats.
It was 2 adds on the ebay on 34ss and one 35ss the 35ss had integrated swim platform otherwise the look the same.must be that.IS Sonic a well built boat and how is it out in the sea.
It's a great rough water boat, but anything 35 feet and under is going to get bumpy in any waves over 4 feet. I dont know how ebay work's on boats but most bank's won't lend on a boat without a survey and unless you got the cash don't they only give you like ten days to pay for it. I don't think I would buy a 1989 boat without touching it and getting a survey.
I just looked at the 89 34ss on ebay it is the same one on trader online. It look's nice in the pic's, but I still think I would go to a newer 31 with 502 efi motor's if I wanted to stay around 50k.Just my .02

I have been on, not ridden in the water, both boats. Basically what everyone said is true. The 34 is the new 35. The 35 has updated items as do all boats as time moves forward. Basically the same boat with updates.
As LOR said, most lending institutions require surveys prior to lending on a boat. Regardless, I would recommend getting a survey done on any boat prior to purchase, especially a go fast boat, as most have really been " Run ". You are not only protecting yourself, but the bank too. With the Survey you will find any problems that may be hidden or not visable to the eye. Ensures you have a sound investment. BTW, as far as I am aware Sonic made a Hull change in 95, atleast on 42's. Just what I have been told by several sources. Do not know if this applys to other models. Sonic makes a nice boat, good ride, comfortable & very stable. You cant go wrong as long as the survey comes out ok...... |
In 1990 most manufactures started counting the swim platform for overall length. Prior to 1990 they didn't count the platform in the lenght of the boat. Sonic changed there model names in 1991 but not there hulls. Same boat. The 30ss is now the 31, the 34ss is now the 35 and the 41ss became the 42ss.

We bought a 1990 34ss last fall. Rides awesome in rough water....no pounding....soooft landings. Been in 7' seas and loved it! From what I have seen, boat has changed very little 'till 358's came out.

Thanks for the answer everyone.. I go for a survey, an then who knows.I let you know. Tyson Sweden.
