Question Water Problems

I filled my water tank this year and when I tried to use the sink no water came out. I could hear the pump running so it was easy to find it. When I looked at the clear hoses I don't see any water flowing. Someone said check the intake line in the tank for blockage. Good idea but I can't find the tank.

Anybody know where they put the tank on a 386?

I'm not positive but I beleive all Sonics use the same 20 gallon water tank and are located on the port gunwale. If you stick your head into your port storage cabinet in the cockpit and look up you should see the tank. Not quite sure how you access anything for repairs though? Steve

When got home from trailering mine from MD, the water pump was running, but no water was coming out. It lost it's prime. Hugh Polluck told me to fill the water tank, then rap a towel around end of the hose and shove the hose into the fill hole. Then turn the water on full and try the water pump. (need 2 people) The towel around the hose made enough of a seal so that the water was pushed into the water pump to prime it.

Yes, my tank is in the port gunwhale as well. I had a problem when I bought mine, as the system was not drained, and the bottom of the housing cracked from freeze. I adapted my pump to a quick remove ability, (solderless marine spade terminals on wires), and pull my pump each winter and drain entire system by blowing thru the hoses, and pulling feed hose to pump off the tank for easy drainage into bilge. If you pull the hoses off the pump, you should be able to blow through them. If you lose your prime again, you should also be able to blow into the vent fitting, and pressure the water to the pump as well.

I think the prime thing is my problem. Its probably the first time anyone has put water in the tank and it was never primed. I'll give that a try first.

Good idea.

Thanks
