speed of the 358 sonic
 

does anyone know what the top speed is of the 358 on fresh water normally loaded. with 496 ho with xr drives and its.

Thank you East Coast. The speed question has been more than covered on this forum on every Sonic with every combination of engines.

Maybe ash didn't believe me before. Trust me ash if you say something that is wrong on this board NOBODY lets it slide. There would have been many post stating it if I was wrong.

ash72201 see if you can get its system on 496 ho's, i thought you can only order them with 525 efi and 575 efi engines ? anyone have info on this ?

The last I spoke with sonic reps, you could not get the ITS with the 496HO's. That was about a year ago.

I really like the ITS system they put together, really cleans up the back of the boat. I'm don't really remember the reason they gave me for not matching up to the 496HO.

Anyone heard good or bad about the ITS??

i hsve its on my sonic now im looking to buy the new 358 but im trying t decide weather or not to get the 500 which i have now or get the 496 hos, but i still want the xr drives with some sortof extention box and if anyone had this set up what speeds are they getting out of it

I'm looking for reliability with longevity in the motors i don't want to have o rebuild the 500 every 300 hours but still want durability in the drives thats why i still want the xr drive but like the look of the its set up, my boat now does 76 - 80 and i really don't want to go down in speed.

Stay with the 500

The 496 unless supercharged will not give you the perfomance of the 500. Plus the 500 has been around for quite a while.

The its system ?? Not real sure of that. I have to agree with Troutly on the Stelling system.

Unless Sonic has changed their ways they will charge you additionla for the upgrade without credit for the parts not used. Try ordering an all white Sonic they still charge you for the basic paint job.

The boat will be a sled with HO's go for the 500's minimum they are a very reliable motor and resale will be much better. The ITS vs. Stellings is a personal decision (Sonic uses IMCO products by the way) the real question is the AMOUNT of set-back. We have played with several scenerios (all had bigger HP though) and it seems the 7-10" range is the best all purpose set-up for that hull. Good luck in your decision.
