A large group of MCPA/OSO members went last year, and from what I remember :drink: .............we all had a great time. Nice to have some major league offshore racing here in
TN. I'm sure we'll bring a large contingent again this year.
Freddy T's, across the street from Pier 57 was a blast too!
Here's a few pics from the '05 race.

A group from Paducah will be there, maybe meet up with a group there and travel together. I suspect 5 boats or more.

Rob,
Other than being stuck "outside" (I prefer covered slips), I thought it was OK. May weather can be stormy.
Maybe we should make reservations earlier. What do you have in mind? If they just have "large"
slips available, we can split them, like we do at Center Hill.
I thought the cabin was nice too. Did Butch and I snore too much for you? He is a terrible influence :drink:  on me. As long as we were there (3 days?), it sure was nice to take a hot shower.....
Steve

Re: OSS Pickwick Challenge 2006

I was the one snoring. I think I ran you and Butch out of the loft. Or maybe you guys just had too much to drink to swagger up the stairs?

The house was nice and slips are very limited there, covered or uncovered. I'm up for renting a house but maybe look around for another place closer to another marina is all. There is no way we can find enough covered slips together for everyone to stay at the same place.

ROAD TRIP!

I thought I saw you guy's at Grand Harbor last year? Tracey & I stayed on the Boat there last year, we shared a slip with two other boats, also you get a free breakfast if you rent a slip and use of the showers thats on the first floor of the main bldg.
Rob, since your a single man now, you should spring for a couple of the 3 bedrooms for everyone to crash in!!!!!

Liquidsation 01-24-2006 07:14 PM

Re: OSS Pickwick Challenge 2006

We got ripped off at the marina. They did not tell us about the shower and free breakfast! Now they owe me!

They did not have any covered slips left either. I guess we need to start planning now.

Ok, so I gather you all had a pretty decent time last year and would be up to the challenge of inducting more folks into the race patrol ranks,,,,,although improving on greatness is a difficult task I know from personal experience that you are up to it!!

( Have you figured out who I am yet? ) :evilb:

Re: OSS Pickwick Challenge 2006

I remember you MZEZ because you're from Texas. Are you the Husband or Wife? If we work the race will you get (guarantee) us covered slips for everyone? That is a looooooong haul for us, one even lost a transmission on the trip. Mine is going out but will be replaced by then. Anyway, working the race was an experience, the pay sucks, but the view is reeeeaaaallllllyyyyy good!

MZEZ, please contact MCPA's President Tim Baldwin at [email protected] for making any arrangements. He should be your only contact. I just make comments so never mind me but if OSS would like to make a generous monetary donation to our club this time I'm sure Tim could let you know a decent starting amount.

Mitch, did you reserve at Grand Harbor again?

The best I remember its around an Hour and 1/2 from Murray,, probably a little longer for you. You can check a map, but you'd probably want to go to Fulton then catch Hwy. 22 in Martin. If OSS does this year, like they did last year you can buy a Race pkg that will get you in to all the events. The Fri. night party at Freddie T's was awesome!!! Beautiful single women everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!! not that I noticed of Course, but thats what I was told   :drink: :D

Re: OSS Pickwick Challenge 2006

It's your"cruise director" Miss Karen. I am the patrol coordinator again this year.(med, Patrol, turn, course set and pace) I should be officially in touch next week via the pickwick patrol e amil group from last year. Of course that will grow as the OSS entries have. It looks to be a banner year for SVL. I will take this unofficial moment to remind the "race patrol virgins"(a designation developed by your contingent) that when you work the race you don't have to buy a "race pkg to get you into the events" because you get the all access passes, an uncovered slip and a few other goodies.

I was just checking to see if you all were still of a mind to come over and play. I'll be in touch very soon.

Karen

Re: OSS Pickwick Challenge 2006

Hi Guys:
Just got back from Pickwick. Looks like everyone there is getting ready for another big event.
Here's what I found out while I was there.................
The State Park is sold out.
The Hampton (stayed there, nice hotel) has a FEW rooms. You will need to go through the lovely Ms Tanya Irwin, Race Director to get one of these (731-689-4000). Tanya also sent me patrol boat forms that I will be forwarding to Tim for anyone wanting to do this. Looks like a good front row seat for your trouble.
There are a FEW open slips at Grand Harbor Marina. Contact Jason Ferguson, dock master to get one (888-689-5551). The cost is the same as last year, $1 per foot per day.
The only condos (2) left at Grand Harbor were expensive, and had a 5 night minimum, so I passed.
There are several cabins still available. I got one of the four 2 bedroom/2 bath cabins near the "lodge" we rented last year. These look pretty nice (were being painted while I was there), are on the road to Grand Harbor, and have plenty of flat parking if you can't get a slip.
Cost was $150 per night, with a 3 night minimum. Total cost with taxes, etc was $530. I guess I'll go down Thursday this year, since I had to take the extra night.
If you are interested in a cabin, contact Linda @ Pickwick Lake Vacation Rentals 800-848-8177/877-742-9425.
If things get tight in Pickwick, you can also stay nearby on the other side of the lake/dam in Savannah, TN. There are several hotels there too.
Thanks for the information Frankie, Tanya, and Linda.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the races!
Regards,
Steve

Re: OSS Pickwick Challenge 2006

For those interested in Pickwick, the West KY Club has a line on acomidations.... below is the post on the WKYPA discussion area....

Here is the deal guys, for the Pickwick/OSS races, I have TWO houses reserved, both have docks, both are 4 bedroom, nicely equipped. If you want to go and stay the weekend and want to stay here, SAY SO NOW. By the end of the week I must commit or demit on the second house, the first four bedrooms are taken. I do not expect the other house to be available long.

We will be "assistants" for the races, this gets us about $1,000 in free stuff per couple, things like race party passes, best spots on the water, and the like. The houses are close to the race track and the big hotel there so we should be close to the night life.

We start on Thursday night (there is a 3 night minimum), head home Sunday. If you want to just come for a day trip then figure on pitching in $100 for the folks who paid to set up base camp.

The houses are ~1 mile apart by road, very close by water.

I figure $800 per couple for the three day weekend, includes gas, food, drink and all that stuff. This is just my estimate of what people will spend.

If you are going let me know, the places are renting fast and I had to pull a favor to get the reservations held without payment till next week, after that the rooms will be booked.

Questions or comments send a note here or to [email protected].

I spoke with Karen from OSS today, she and I have spoken several times, she said there would be a party at Freddie's Friday, something Saturday, Pier 57 is putting on a poker run on Saturday as well.

FYI - to everyone, to be a race assist boat there are some basic requirements, nothing major, but you gotta do a form, send me an e-mail link and I will pass it on, I think Tim has one too. Each assist boat gets 4 passes and 2 shirts, and she is trying to get OSS race teams to "adopt" one assist boat, that will be cool, probably get free shirts and some cool stuff.

Since the TX race is canceled due to that being spring break this will be opening night, should be an intense weekend.

For anyone that is interested, Jonathan from Adrenaline Powerboats and I rented "Little Corky's" from Pickwick Lake Cabins. We have room and the cabin is supposed to be very nice and located behind Pier 57 on the way to Grand Harbor. There is a big dock at the cabin with good deep water access so plan on leaving the boats in the water. I was at Pickwick and Pier 57 last weekend and fired the boat up on Saturday for the 1st run of the year!

When is the next meeting? I am finally in Nashville and need to meet the group. Thanks,

Scott

Greetings,
I have emailed the 2006 volunteer pack and information sheets to most of you from last year and if you email me your address I will make sure you get the information asap. I am urging you all to respond as soon as possible so I can get credentials and shirts taken care of. A few of you have already returned the information.
In speaking with Tim, Dean and a few others I know this will be a great event. I will try to keep you as up to date as possible. I hope the phone numbers for the realtors helped a little.

This year promises to be even better with more boats racing. Make sure you bring plenty of film!! As always please feel free to email or call if you have any questions.

Steve,
Not to get off the subject.. Do you know Tom Kenner in Ill.?
I know this is way off in left field, but he has a 2003 28' heat for sale that I'm interested in. It's on the Nordic website. It's the yellow boat on the left side of owner's pics. Just like your opinion on the 28. Thanks
