Whats the chrome pipes sticking up out of the drives?

from what I understand " could be wrong" it helps ventilate the drives, takes some of the pressure off.

Simon explained it this way...

The pipes above the props are there to allow air into the prop stream so that they can turn faster while getting on plane.

Those are some high-pitched props!
