Austin area - Jim Speros - mobilemercman.com?

Does anyone in the Austin area have any experience with Jim Speros (www.mobilemercman.com)? I blew an outdrive last weekend and I'm looking to get it rebuilt locally. Any comments, good or bad, are appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Ed, how is it going. Jim is a stand-up guy with a wealth of talent & knowledge. You will not be sorry doing buisness with him. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

You will not go wrong with Jimbo.

Thanks guys. I talked to Jim a couple of days ago. I'm going to drop off my outdrive at his place tomorrow.

Dave - good hearing from you. It's going ok. I just wish my power was as reliable as the paint looks! I got a new long block last year. Now I'm getting a drive rebuilt. What's next? I guess I still have one of each to go........

Maybe it's time to see if the boat will run at 1/2 throttle sometimes! I promise the boat will run at other speeds besides idle and full throttle! :lolhit:

Full throttle + no drive showers = 1 blown drive in 3 years.

1/2 throttle + drive showers = 4 or 5 or 6 blown drives in 3 years (I lost count):grinser010:

Keeping my fingers crossed Tom. I should be back in the water next weekend. That'll give me 4 months to see if it stays reliable!

Come on now. For the record, I've only really blown 3 drives and the first two were related to bottoming out in sand in Destin. The next one I'll have to blame on not being rebuilt right as were all the little problems in between.

Tom - order this man some drive showers. All he needs is the hose, he already has the top caps. Oh and order him some new Bravo stickers so he can replace the ones that are melting off the drives. :lolhit:

Just be careful if he offers you a margarita when you pick the drive up. You may need to call someone to pick you up!

Griswald 01-07-2010 02:01 PM

p.s. if he does offer one, call me quick so I can run over there and help you drink it :)

I have used Action Marine off 2222 and 620 in the past for preventative maintenance / drive rebuilds. Never had any issues with their work.

Ed,
Jim worked on our 30 and did an excellent job. Fair price, good work and stood behind his work. I'd highly recommend him.

Jay, where have you been??? Del told me you sold your boat. Did you get something else, or are you just done? Nancy and I live on the lake now half way between mile 37 and 38. Come on over and see us sometime!

If there's one thing I never need help with, that's drinking!

Ed,
I think we're done-----unless I find something to steal. Turned the boat garage into a "man cave". Trying to become a pool shark:eek: Thanks for the invite. Give us a call one of these days--I don't have your number anymore. :drink:

Thanks---We're going to Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale next week so we'll see what happens.
Jay
