Hate to see so many people having trouble already. At least you're getting them out of the way now before boating season really picks up.

Working till lunch, then headed to the river. Got a few projects to do down there plus make sure the boat is ready to go for tomorrow.

Yeah, 15 mph SSE winds make for a rough day on Ponchartrain.

LAriverratt 03-26-2010 09:09 AM

march isn't always nice as far as winds are concerned, as long as its sunny and warm I'll take it

caseyh 03-26-2010 12:09 PM

Hope you guys had a good run Saturday. Boat looked good when you passed. I was fighting a bad MSD box on the starboard motor. I just ordered two brand new ones and they will be in this week. Not taking any chances. Kind of a pain but that's why we run them this time of the year. Working out the kinks.

Looking forward to the BRBC poker run!

jmeng 03-28-2010 09:59 AM

Yeah we had a great day except for losing 3 boats within the first 20 minutes. Thats why we call it the shakedown cruise though. Decent chop in the lake but nothing too bad. Your boat looked great. Had my wife asking all kinds of questions about it.

38Lightning 03-28-2010 09:08 PM

3 boats holy smokes batman! :eek:I better take mine out before the royaL purple to dust the cobwebs off and make sure she is still running strong. Blew an upper in the drive 4 months ago (after season was already over) so put her away pretty disgusted.

38Lightning 03-28-2010 09:10 PM

when is the bbc pr this year?

looked like you guys had a good turn out at Tin Lizzys...got a late start but crossed the lake to madisonville and met with some friends there. was a little chilly coming back but all in all a nice run and nice day for March anyway.

Think we ended up with 15 boats over there, plus a few more people drove over by car. Tin Lizzies treated us great as usual. You should have stopped in for a drink.

LAriverratt 03-29-2010 08:39 AM

we would have if it weren't for the late start..met up with the guy who sold us the boat and his girlfriend in NO, they had never been before, and did the french quarter/bourbon street tour with them and that kinda held us up on the early start...:lolhit: then we looked at the 38 TG that's for sale near our place before we even made it out of our canal.

Kieffer4 03-29-2010 01:47 PM

Planning to take a four day weekend this coming weekend. MSD boxes should be in Wednesday. Would like to run a full tank of fuel through the boat. Also want to test some different props. Thinking Saturday for sure but proabaly another day too if the weather is nice.

LAriverratt 03-30-2010 03:49 AM

we should be out this weekend...I'd like to say for four days, but 2 is going to be it for us this week.

38Lightning 03-30-2010 04:46 AM

most of the stops on blind river are open, blind river bar and the new Tiki Hut for sure, that's the old pier 13...but I haven't ventured over that way yet, sun buns, maybe this week, prop stop, no word yet but I'll do some checking, T rivers was not open this weekend when we passed by going in at 2 and leaving out after 5:30, usually the first weekend in April they all try and open. we should be out there this weekend again.

jmeng 03-30-2010 07:41 AM

Prop Stop is opening Saturday. Wish I could go but between friends, inlaws, and family I've got crawfish boils and Easter stuff all weekend.

If it's coast guard documented then you don't have to have reg numbers.

38Lightning 03-31-2010 08:14 PM

Gonna try and make ALL the stops saturday hope to see you guys out there.

jmeng 03-31-2010 08:54 PM

Wish I could make it out there Sat. Have to go do redneck easter with the in-laws in Mississippi. Heading down to the river on Sunday to boil some shrimp for the family. Might take a spin on the party barge but not planning on dropping the Baja in the water.

What is the scoop for 1st weekend in May? Is there gonna be a poker run tribute to charlie and the tickfaw 200 or not?

there is going to be two things that weekend, a memorial boat run from blood river landing to the mouth of the Tickfaw, and party at The Prop Stop, no Tickfaw 200 this year but will return IN 2011. The Royal Purple Poker Run has moved to this weekend this year to fill the spot till next year. Check Prop Stops Facebook, they should have all the details I think. Also go to Poker Run forum on this site and read in 2010 Royal Purple poker run thread for details.

I didn't realize you had to have the sticker. I thought with coast guard documents, you didn't even register the boat with the state? That's why most people that bought new boats did the coast guard thing, so they could get out of paying taxes.

well if that's the case I f'd up... there went some $$$ i could have used for headers and a stereo upgrade:angry-smiley-038:I should have checked with DWL first but I figured I still owed the taxes anyway...not that I would have jumped at the opportunity to NOT pay!!!! the reg only cost $65 the taxes...$$ holychit$$$!!!!:angry-smiley-038: well I guess I don't have to worry about putting the blue sticker on the side of the boat now.

jmeng 04-01-2010 08:38 AM

I would double check all that, don't take my word for it.

Taxes suck, that's why I only buy used boats from individuals, only have to pay taxes on the trailer then.

Croozin2 04-01-2010 08:39 AM

If memory serves me, there have been some changes in the last couple years. Since boats aren't titled in Louisiana (trailers are) there was a loophole there. You bought the boat and trailer separate. You paid taxes on the trailer and you documented the boat with the USCG thereby avoiding the taxes. This also came into play with cruisers since they aren't trailerable. We received a letter from LDWF about 1-2 years ago stating that they now are requiring taxes to be paid on all boats, but if the boat is documented, you don't have to affix numbers, only the state sticker. Don't take it for gospel but I'm pretty sure that's correct.

well they got their taxes from me....you know they aren't going to miss an opportunity to tax you AND get there reg fee's..can't go having the common folk getting out that now can we...well I have copies of all the paper work, and copies of checks paid to the state on board to prove it...i wasn't gonna put the sticker on the boat till I get word directly form an officer anyway.

I'm not sure you can do that anymore unless it's an instate boat, when you go to register the boat with the state they ask for a Manufacturer's certificate of authenticity, bill of sale, and a tax form showing proof of parish and state taxes paid to match the bill of sale price. this is the third time I've done this and I haven't found a way around it yet if the boats is from out of state, and the first that I have registered USCG.

jmeng 04-01-2010 10:48 AM

That's news to me. Bought my boat in '07 and no taxes were required. Didn't do coast guard doc. Brought the bill of sale to the sec state office then registered at WLF. As long as it wasn't purchased from a dealer then no problem. If they changed that then every boat I look at just got 15k more expensive.

jmeng 04-01-2010 10:54 AM

JLAY 04-01-2010 11:45 AM

I bought mine in 08 out of NJ and all I did was send in the previous ouners title and the bill of sale to LDWF and they sent me La. reg. and the sticker. Had to pay the fee by length of boat. It sucks if they did change it. I thought you only had to pay taxes if it was from a dealer or for commercial use?

caseyh 04-01-2010 03:24 PM

Bought mine in 08 did not pay taxes on the boat just the trailer.... I know the guy I bought it from payed taxes on it when he bought it from out of state. It was also from a individaul
