Houston area
Hey guys, I am new to the Houston area, outside of Lake Travis where is the hot spots on the water in the Houston area? Thanks
|
Depending on what part of Houston you live in? There is Lake Conroe to the north and Clear Lake/Galveston Bay to the south. Both great places.
|
I hear the water levels at Conroe are getting pretty low and hard to launch and get fuel in alot of places. Hopefully they will get some rain soon and bring the lake up some.
|
Yes it is pretty low. I've launched at lakeview and april plaza within the last week and had no problems. Plus, there are several other "private" community ramps that are still good. No problem with fuel docks as they are floating. The bars are a different story. Almost need a ladder to get out of the boat but they are still doable.
|
Do many people hang out in Lake Houston kind of NW of town?
|
Not a real good lake for go-fasts lots of stumps and shallow areas. Great for fishing and skiing though.

Aim south of the Lake Houston Dam on the San Jacinto river and you'll have a fantastic experience compared to the lake itself. There's lots of fuel burning and banging out distance traveled to be had heading south if your into knocking out lots of travel time on the water. Lake Conroe isn't bad except it's small, but it aint that great at the moment due to the low water level. The kids and I had a great time there yesterday right up until I drilled a sand bar and got promptly stuck while they were riding jet skis near me. Shoot me a PM if your looking to hook up with some locals on the water, just note that in addition to myself and my bud in his boat like yours, we're usually packing some of our kids who although think that they're adults, they're really just late teen and early 20's kids with drama, LOL!!! See ya, Kelly |
where is a good area to put in at now? I havent put in in about a month and last time i got to play out on the lake it was hard already. I usually put in at that shell station on 1097 at the small bridge.
|
Your best bet is going to be Inland on 105 behind the Valero/Subway/Eldardo Jacks's area, or April Plaza on 105 past April Sound. Both ramps still have good water. Where you're talking has gotten pretty shallow.
|
Here at Lakeview Marina we still have 30' of ramp with over 7' of water at the end. Our gas dock is floating and no problems getting in or out.:coolcowboy:
|
Right on, Lakeview was the only place I used to put in before I moved here... fastest access to the open water.
|
Lake view is nice but $30 for valet is ridiculous imo, great facility but way overpriced...

I took over Lakeview Marine in November 2010 and we have not charged $30 to launch a boat. All launches are $10 no matter how many axles.

It should be worth $30 just for the pleasure of getting to stand around b.s.ing with you---- :evilb:

If its $10 I will give them another shot, I remember paying $5 to launch a jetski which was fair I thought....I just called and was told it is $30 for a valet launch but did'nt ask about $30 for tri-axle's. It is $10 just to use the ramp and launch on your own with your own vehicle.
Someone needs to tell them a recession is going on :D What would cause the price to go up to $10 from $5 or $7? Top Water grill still charges $5 as do alot of other ramps, its not the amount that baffles me it the reasoning as to why so much at Lakeview. |
It's $10 to launch no matter how many axles. If you want us to launch your boat with our tractor it is $30..Valet Launch

I'll second Lakeview Marina if your going to Lake Conroe.
The new mgm't rocks !!! The best part is that the water there is good and deep and the boat ramp isn't to steep for larger boats. For less than 100 monthly they keep my 38 on it's big ass trailer in open storage ready for valet launch, and I can come up anytime with the kids and launch our jet skis as part f the membership. Not having to drag that boat back and forth from the shop to the pond is worth the price of membership to me. See ya, Kelly |
Canyon Lake
Anybody ever boat at Canyon Lake. I know it's a drive from Houston, but I boat there all the time.

We usually hit up the San Jac River and beach it across from Banna Bend, or head up river near the dam area. In Clear Lake there's a nice chill spot to anchor near Nassau Bay.

It is low enough that Perry built stairs down to the beach at his docks. You can now beach the boat and walk up to the bar at Papa's.
|

Re: Texas Drought
It's unreal how bad it's become. Last weekend just due west from a lot of members here in our area they just recently got control of a wildfire which burned for a week and put many out of house and home during the evacuation, some completely as their homes burned down. One of my customers not to far from there pumped over 1/2 his pool water out stopping one that started in his neighbors backyard from embers. They called the VFD and were advised that if there's anything you homeowners can do, do it immediately with garden hoses, rakes, and shovels. He called me for a large 3" pump and by the 20 minutes it took him to get to my shop and back it had grown to 4 backyards and well over 2 acres burned. When the volunteer firefighters showed up it was 90% out. In just a millesecond it's like the problem of our lake being low no longer seemed so important. See ya, Kelly See ya, Kelly |
