Lake Livingston Info Plz (?)
Anyone got the latest scoop on Livingston ? - Any problems there ? - Any precautions - water level info ?
Sorry guys - I am not in the country and have been watching the news coverage about the problems many lakes are having since the drought and fires. I am wanting to launch my boat in about 5 weeks. I wanted to launch at Lake Conroe to take a few test runs with new engines in my boat - but heard it was pretty much a pond now. I thought Lake Livingston would withstand the drought and still have boat launches that could be used. Thanks for any info you can share. Jimi |
Here is some info from an older thread:
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...exas-area.html Try the search function and type in Lake Livingston. It will bring up any thread on here with the words in it. |
Lake Livingston has too many stumps, even when the Lake is High. Boat season is over unless you want to put your boat in Salt Water in Clear Lake. People are hitting all kinds of things under the water. They are even finding Cars in Lake Houston. Last weekend at Sam Rayburn, a bass boat hit concrete from an unknown structure and the outboard engine broke off and landed in the back of the boat. Luckly no one got killed. That was an article in the Beaumont Enterprise. They had a piece of concrete stuck in the prop, that is how they know they hit concrete.

http://lufkindailynews.com/sports/ou...cc4c03286.html I broke my skeg, bent my prop, and took a chunk out of my cavivitation plate on my starboard drive about a month ago there backing my boat off the trailer at the 4 lane launch near the dam. I hit a huge chuck of rock or concrete in about 4' feet of water. I might have been going 3-4 mph when I hit it. I got it all fixed back up now but you really have to be careful in the shallow lakes. |
You are lucky you were going slow. Time to put the boat up for the winter, get a closed cooling system and get ready for salt water. It's not looking good for the freshwater lakes for 2012. Contraband Days in Lake Charles next year and the Tickfaw 200 is on my list for 2012. Also, they have a couple of poker runs in Clear Lake every year. Wait a minute.....I think I just heard thunder outside. :party-smiley-048: Let me go get my rain gauge.

I am Ok with running in the salt if I have to. It is just a PIA to flush everything and rinse the boat/trailer afterwords. For Contraband days, where does everyone put the boats in at? I am only 45min from Lake Charles but never had my boat in the water there yet. |

Is contraband days where they run from Clear Lake to Lake Charles? I'd like to do some poker/fun runs next year. |
For Contraband Days, we are thinking of trying to get several boats together, Launch at Port Neches Park, which is south of Beaumont, TX, then drive the boats to Lake Charles through the intercoastal canal. I think it is about 80 miles one way. I live north of Houston, so I will drive to Port Neches Park. Driving a boat from Clear Lake to Lake Charles is a very long way and the gas cost would eat my lunch. I only get about 1 mile per gallon.
