Canyon Lake members?
Wondering how many members here frequent Canyon? Got our lil purple Mariah out for the first time this season this past Sunday after most of the tourists had gone home. Lake is pretty low for us at 9' down. Hoping to hit LBJ and Travis at least once this year.

Been boating at Canyon for years. First as rental boats, then as jet ski's, and now as a high performance boater. Next trip is planned for Easter weekend. Got a bunch of work to do on the boat to clean it up after winterizing. Will most likely try to splash for a couple runs up and down the lake.

Looks like the Mother in law is coming in for Easter, so if we do get out on the lake, try not to capsize us when you fly past. lol. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...34660348_n.jpg Bob |
Been on Canyon since I was 16, still going there and Travis also. Will hopefully see you on the water this summer!
|
What is the water level like at Canyon? I don't see much hope for a Travis recovery short of a miracle monster storm.

It's 9' down and most of the ramps are open. If you're coming out let me know and I can advise you on the best way to get there to quickly access what I consider to be some of the better ramps. The one I use is free, double wide, and has a nice aluminum floating dock.

My in-laws have a cruiser "Double Click" at Canyon Lake Marina and we've towed the 29 "NAUTI ONE" out a few times from Conroe. We are up almost every other weekend hanging out on the cruiser or the docks/party cove. Was up last weekend and lake is getting a little lower but still more then our puddle we call Conroe

Yes, white/green Baja....hopefully make it out soon.

I normally launch at Jacobs creek via joint base gate. Where is the ramp you use, I launch by myself a lot. Deep ramp?

We launch at Potters Creek, the one just before you enter the park. Honestly don't know how deep it is, but it's not very steep, there's a nice wide place to turn around just above the ramp. Parking is the only issue, sometimes have to park up on the road.
Is the dock still floating? The second page of this link indicates that Potter's is usable to 893? Any real-world reports on the ramp? http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/can...WebVersion.pdf |
I'll be on Canyon this weekend."BADFISH". Holler if you see me.

I really want to get on the water this weekend. Do you guys think Potter's Creek still has enough ramp in the water for my 32 Sunsation?
Is the dock still floating? Planning to get out this weekend if it's not raining, but will have the mother-in-law and handicapped bro-in-law with us so will probly just cruise the lake for a bit. |

The ramp I'm referring to is #21 just to be clear.
We used to use #17, but it's just single wide and was churning up mud and vegitation when the water was this low a couple years ago. There are submerged trees in that cove too. The Canyon Lake Marina ramp is deep, but very steep. If you launch there stay left when idlilng toward the docks to pick up as there's a big submerged rock close to the first free slip by the shore. I hit that damn rock first time out with our other boat. Sometimes they mark it sometimes not. . |

Cool. I'll check it out. Love to see your Mariah sometime too. Fond memories of that boat brand. It was my first boat (1992 Shabah 192). I ran that boat all over the place. Travis, Powell, Havasu, rivers in Pittsburgh and even the Chesapeake Bay.

Damn you get around. Havasu is on my bucket list of lakes I want to get on. We love this lil Mariah. Eventually wanting a bigger second boat though... a house boat if I can figure out how to swing it.

Yeah...the military is relentless in moving people every few years, but at least I get to check out a new boating scene. Getting ready, again, to leave Texas.

I boat a canyon at least once a month! We will be out there the last weekend in may, wont make it tell then going to tick fall also! Maybe well see a few peeps then!
|
Heading out tomorrow to de-winterize trailer and boat. We need some sort of OSO flag to wave at fellow member / boaters. When idling I can't hear too much. See everyone out there, if the weather holds.

I scouted out the Potter's Creek ramp yesterday after work. Potter’s creek is approx. 8 miles west, on FM 306, from the turn-off for JBSA rec area. The lake is pretty low, but the ramp is still in the water. Gradual slope, but a decent angle for launching. I waded down the ramp a bit to determine how much of the ramp was still wet. I was in about 3 feet of water 15 feet down from the water line. I feel confident I can launch my Sunsation from that ramp at the current lake level. The dock is sketchy. Small floating aluminum platform with about 4 feet of water at the dock. Every cleat is broken off the dock. If you are Solo launching, it is certainly doable at this site. You will just have to be careful with that dock. With no cleats, you will have to improvise a tie-point. I'll be on the lake this weekend. Sunday, most likely. I will PM you my cell number. Text me if you need a hand with anything. |

Gonna splash / launch on Friday afternoon at Jacobs Creek ramp. Will let everyone know how the ramp is holding up. Gotta get batteries back in, and fuel the thirsty beast, on Thursday afternoon. Hope she is not too dirty.

Sorry won't be able to make it out this wknd...Easter fun.
If you get a chance, hauling to Havasu (1,170mi) is a blast, two of us did it week of July4, stayed @ London Bridge, left the boat docked in the water and had a blast. We went all the way up to Pirates Cove and then south almost as far as we could. So much different than lakes in Texas! Things slow down during the week so we drove up to Laughlin one night, had fun there and we're back on the water the next day by noon. I'd do it again! |

Got the boat all ready and the family didn't get back home from shopping til 4:00 ... So hopefully we can get out Sunday after church and grandma's on her way home.
|
Not really a sticker fan but picked up some of the small oval OSO transom stickers.

Did manage to get out on Canyon for about an hour yesterday before it started raining. There was a lone Baja in the party cove when we cruised through. My 15 yr old knee-boarded for a while then we started seeing lightening in the west and headed in.
|
A little video of blowing the cobwebs out. Video courtesy of AZ Boater. We all had a great time running on Saturday and rafting up in the party cove. Be back in two weeks.
