Tickfaw 200 2015
Who of the texas folk will be attending?
I am going. Should have at least 5 boats from conroe
Yep. Me too!
Anyone in need of a crew? Entry fee and crew will be paid for!
I'm having my buddies bachelor party that weekend, and we have 3 boats in the group with a possible 4th, so was trying to make room for a few guys and and strippers(strippers in your boat optional) and welcome to join in on the festivities! My cousin own the bar we stop at in Madisonville(**** show will be epic!) due to large quantities of alcohol!
My boat is usually full but who knows...
This will be my first time...I'll help with the strippers!
Be my first run out there as well! Should be a blast!! (Strippers included)
I have never done Tickfall. But I was thinking of trailering the boat down from Maryland. Is anyone from that area headed down? Or from that area and have made that trip?
This is the funniest and cheapest run of the year for us. The map you get is very good. If you are not following someone, study the map prior to getting under way. There are a few bad spots and a ton of crab traps. Once you get past that, it is a freakin blast. The swamps are awesome, crossing to New Orleans for lunch is super cool. Just a great trip.
We have a pretty good group going, with a few locals leading the way, you're welcome to join in!
I am giving it some serious thought. It looks pretty cool to be running thru the swamps. I will need to replace trailer bearings and seals first (one days work). Travel time is not an issue nor diesel. But where to stay, ramps etc. I have also found that not being from the area on some of these runs. That docking space may need to be reserved. Or does the sign up fee reserve you a spot? Do the stops include meals? Sign-up fees? etc. etc. I have been on the Tickfall web site but I would like to find this out before I say "Let's Go" Thanks Mark
The fee only covers your entry fee into the poker hand. They have cabins to rent at blood River marina, and they do have slips you can get for the weekend. We are staying in Madisonville and getting slips at Marina Del Ray, about an hour boat ride to blood River, and a lot closer to hotels.
I have looked it over on the web sites. Do you have to Preregister or can you just roll in that weekend? I think as long as they aren't calling for bad weather we will make the trip.
Think you can just roll in that weekend, but I'll ask to make sure!

We'll be towing out there for the run too. Prob some friends from Wisconsin and a few others on our ride. Should be fun! Especially if we don't break anything!
Were in, this will be our 1st time
We are planning on going for the 1st time as well. Do people leave their boats in the water and go to a hotel at night and leave their trailer at Blood River Marina? Do people take their boat out of the water every day? Or do a lot of people just sleep on their boats! I'm trying to figure out the trend!
guys...get with caseyh here on oso. he can fill you in and answer any questions you have! go here http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/p...louisiana.html

That said, people do all options you mentioned. We have stayed in Hammond and pulled out each night. We have stayed closer to the festivities and left the boat in the water. Near the marina there is bulkhead for days and there are often boats rafted off 3-4 wide over night. Ideally you'd raft off to boaters you know but not required. You don't want to be the last guy to raft and the last guy to show up the next day, but that goes without saying. Everyone is pretty relaxed and honest around those parts the best I can tell. The only time I ever saw someone upset was a biker who quickly got arrested after being rude to someone on the poker run. He was a di(k and the poker run brings in a ton of revenue for this area. I am sure they want to keep that going. Even the police appear to be helpful without being a-holes. Just my perception. |

Finally got contact with Blood River Marina. They have been out of RV spots for a long time. Either get a hotel or sleep on your boat. After you launch your boat, they pull up a tractor and haul your trailer away so you can have your truck without the hassel of dealing with your boat trailer. Your trailer is tagged by your Tickfaw entry number. I was told by Joey to print out your entry form and pay when you get there. It is easier for them. I assume CASH. Vallet Trailer Parking. That's nice. There is plenty of boat parking throughout the canals that is part of the nieghborhood. The neighborhood supports parking outside the property of the marina. This is what I was told. Looks like I better book a room this week.

I have been several times and seen everything you mentioned. If you do not want to go this route, there is a public ramp further down the road and you can still dock the boat at the same bulkhead. Just depends on what works for you. It is a blast and a pretty cheap poker run. Book the trip, you will be happy you did.
Were at the Hoilday Inn. I still may leave the boat in the water. I bet its safer there than in a Hotel parking lot.
That is cool you guys are booked. You will enjoy the run.
I have left the boat on the trailer and in the water in the past. For me, the main influence on making that decision was if we had an extra vehicle. If so, we just left the trailer and truck hooked up at/near the hotel and left the boat in the water. The only negative (which I do not have experience with) storing the trailer at the valet marina, is getting it back in a timely manner. I'd think everyone wants their trailer at the end of the run about the same time. On leaving the boat in the water... I always figured there are about 200 boats worth way more then my boat doing it, must be pretty safe. And I am pretty sure that party goes on 24 hours a day so there is always boat people walking around. It is funny, all the locals have "camps" around the marina where you will keep your boat. These "camps" kick my house directly in the ballz. In other words, they don't need our chit:) I need to meet some of you guys prior to the run. We are on Lake Conroe, so give me a heads up if you are on the water. |
We are staying at the La Quinta in Hammond. Prob leave the boat in the water and pull the truck/trailer back to the hotel. Another couple I think are renting a car so we can all jump in...prob be a Geo Metro for 6 peeps but it'll be fun! First time for this run so looking forward to bringing the big girl out to play!
Joe, don't know if you remember Keli and I from Conroe...had the 29 OL "NAUTI ONE"... Be good to see some of the ole gang from Conroe out there! |
