Is this two much for insurance?

Hey guys,

I have been checking rates and I knew that it would cost more in FL, but I am getting quotes in the $2500 range for my 32 fever.

This is nearly 4 times what I pay in the Midwest, does that sound right?

Hurricanes & 12 months of boating.
Call Sy Goldberg. He's on this website.

I had problems with Progressive after they took my money only to cancel me 3 weeks later. Telling me my boat went to fast. You would think those DUMB***** would have known a boat with 800 HP will do 75+. Anyway the Foremost insurance company hooked me up in about 20 minutes.

Not really the case at all. Florida is an insurance shocker. I moved to FL from Charlotte NC and my rate went up x4. I pay just over 3k per yr. You've got everything above Lucky Strike said, and also access to international water ways. Theft is huge, named storms, 12 months of boating, in my case i pay more due to age, and until this year the fact i wasnt married. FL is expensive.. Our boats seem pretty similar, $2500 is probably close to the best you will do

That's about right. It's exactly what I pay. It's FL...high theft, hurricanes and no lay-up period with endless navigational area.

My 2001 35' Fountain last year was around $2000. A year good credit, no points, 50 years old. With the same company for 5 years 2500. Sounds normal. Orlando was cheaper than Jacksonville for me.

Moved my boat from VA to FL last year and my insurance tripled initially. $550 to $1500 for the year. Also was surprised to find out that only a limited number of carriers will insure boats in Florida. After a year of coverage, my premium just went down to $1100 for this next year!

i pay 1500 a year for a 88 bullet in louisiana. now my age and HP play more of a factor. but sound right in the area of my uncles boat in FL

You guys are quoting some low rates for FL, $2000-$2500. Who are you using? Are we talking agreed value?

GoFastScott 11-07-2012 06:22 AM

To the OP- that quote doesnt even sound like it has windstorm coverage, I pay $3200 IIRC without windstorm, make sure you read the coverage well. I would second talking to Sy, hes on board here and is a great guy!

Also agreed value, will check the wind storm coverage.

Before I bought the boat I got now I had called State Farm to see if they would insure the boat I was looking at buying since the guy I was buying from had it insured with State Farm. They said they would and gave me a price. On my way to pick up the boat I call and tell them I need the boat insured since on way to pick up. About a week later they said they would not insure the boat since it was too fast. Got to love insurance companies.

2,500 sounds good actually... Always tell em it only goes 50...
