the "hop" that hull has isn't removeable by blueprinting, won't hurt to put a straight edge on the sponsons, but i don't think you will find much... most cats that size will hop from around 50-70 (some more, some less) a tunnel tab can help counteract this, but is a tricky piece to operate and can hurt ya if done improperly, i would say your better off driving thru it and either run above or below the speed your hull hops....

This is my exact concern.
So you could actually remove the tab if you wanted
or is the added weight of the tab a plus?

if done correctly, there is nothing wrong with a tunnel tab and it does have it benefits (easier to get on plane with it down and helps get rid of the hop) but it can ruin your day if you don't pay attention to where it is at...

Thanks Sean your explanation helps allot.
The reason why I asked is that the Spectre and the
AMT has caught my eye and I noticed no
tabs on the AMT (and no 300's either ) So I
was wondering if they run no tabs why cant
a Spectre.?
(kinda like a tunnel ext)
Are there any 30 o/b cats with tunnel ext?
I think that would be kinda cool looking.

these boats don't need a tunnel tab, but they do have a use... i had a 30 with sterndrives and didn't need a tunnel tab, could i have used one? sure, but its not worth the headache...
you can always add a set of trim tabs if you really want to help get on plane or minimize the hop.... they are much safer and user friendly... plus can help offset a unbalanced load which a tunnel tab can't do...
if you get one, remember, tunnel tab is always up in the corners....

i run a 30 spectre with no tab and 300x's. when you get on plane and xcelerate and trim the motors you can run right thru it...unless the water is very flat. where i boat it is usually 1-2 ftrs and the only hop i get is cruising between 4-4700 rpms...what causes the hop you speak of is lack of trim. motors fighting nose down and air trying to lift. let the hull work for you. i usually run my boat 1-1.5 notches of trim BELOW NEUTRAL and my prop shafts are approx 1.5 inches above the hull...good luck there a great boat
