New Interior and Cockpit Cover
5 Attachment(s)
I just got the boat home tonight from a stint at the upholstery shop. The original interior was all white. It wasn't in bad shape, but being 16 years old, there was some wear and yellowing. I decided to go with a black, white, and silver theme and give it an update. I'm very happy with the job a local guy did for me. Unfortunately, the flooring didn't make it in time. That will be black, brushed Marine Mat with a white Spectre logo and white diagonal lines similar to the stitch pattern in the seats. I also changed to a new black cockpit cover from the original purple.
Other updates include a new steering wheel, new billet cup holders, and a good polish for the grab handles. I also had the controls re-chromed, but still need to reassemble them and install back into the boat. Attachment 572726 Attachment 572727 Attachment 572728 Attachment 572729 Attachment 572730 |

The cockpit is finally complete with the addition of a new Eddie Marine shifter. It was a 5 month ordeal from the day I purchased it to the day I could finally mount it that included replacing one of the base pieces twice. But, it's in and I can now go boating... once the water level goes down below the no-wake restriction.

For those of you who suffer from OCD like me and hate it when your asymmetrical steering wheel ends up in the wrong position after a ride, you might like this addition. I mounted a thin NRG quick release hub which allows me to correct the orientation. This did require some milling to the top outer edge of the steering wheel hub so it would recess into the NRG hub, though.

During the offseason, I decided to focus on the interior some more. The previous owner installed a nice stereo system. It had two 12" Kicker subs in a custom box under the deck powered by a JBL 1500W amp and eight 7" Alpine coaxial cockpit speakers powered by a JBL 600W amp. The amps are in an enclosed box with a plexiglass window under the port hatch. I already dropped that off with my upholstery guy to recover in black carbon vinyl. Then, I worked on replacing all 8 cockpit speakers with JL Audio M770's. They definitely produce more bass than the Alpine speakers that came out. You really feel the music in your chest! :)
Red LED lighting is also part of the plan. I got a set of LED rings for the front pair of speakers just to see if I liked them. I do and will be getting 3 more pairs of rings. I will also be updating all of the gauge bulbs to red LED's in addition to adding some red LED strips under the gunwales. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1d32bb8e1f.jpg |
Finished the port side and the cup holders today. Diggin' it! The camera makes the light look white, but to the naked eye, it's all red.

It turned out really good!!!

Looks really clean! What flooring is that and where do I get it?... Blake and I redid our 30 spectre and took it from triple 2.5's to twin 300's.... Also cleaned up the dash a bit and still have some things left to do.

Thanks. The cockpit flooring was done by Marine Mat. The mat that's on the deck is Aquatraction.

I got my amp box cover back from upholstery. He did the black carbon vinyl and a new piece of plexiglass.

Finished wiring up two Boatpluglight Electra lights with Superbrightled 15A remotes. I can run them both with a single controller that has dimming and strobing features. They will probably just stay on solid, though.

A couple more projects are done. I installed a billet Marine Industries West 12"X5" glove box door with custom black starboard box made by Boat Outfitters. All of the gauge bezels got replaced as well. I had a couple of them that were corroded, but found that the design had changed a little since 2001. Since they all needed to be replaced to match, I went with black.

Been busy doing some maintenance on the trailer and the lower units. The trailer got all new hubs with triple lip seals and Timken bearings. Finally, I installed new wheels and tires so I'm all set for some long trips this year.

Just got a pic from Steve at Innotech. He finished my new switch panels!
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b6beaf28bd.jpg |
Finished up my switch panel project tonight and got rid of the last bit of purple on the boat. Innotech really does quality work. Super happy with the look.

Changed the console cupholder LED rings and added some to the rear seat. I didn't like how the cupholder rings showed the individual LED lights while the speaker rings have a uniform glow. Also, nobody sold any rings to fit the small 3" cupholders in the rear bench armrests. I got a friend with a CNC router to cut me some out of white acrylic and used COB halos instead of light strips.
Rear - new, Front -old https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3d0a410733.jpg The rears complete the cockpit LED lighting. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2360d0de9c.jpg |
Looking Sharp! I like all of the thought that you put into it. Lots of brain power! Like you, I'm going through everything on my new boat and once, which has been overwhelming, but now is the time to get it sorted out. The previous owner didn't do a single upgrade and left certain items in disrepair....which was really shocking to me. With that said, it's all getting upgraded, repaired, and better than new. So great job, I can see a ton of work, I'm taking notes on the covered and lighted amp cabinet for my amp/LED/stereo control center board that is now exposed! Great idea! Also like the new carbon switch panels. I have silver also, but some are discolored and need replacement and want to add that to the base of some cup holders. Going to call your guy on the CF panels! I also like the neon led speaker rings. The ones I found on amazon are super expensive, so I bought the led rings which were 25 for 6.5" and 37 for the 10" subs, but might switch to the neon like you have. What do you think about the JL speakers? I've always loved the Focal 6.5's and the boat has those now. I bought 2 more pair of the K2 6.5 coaxials, expensive to maintain the focal sound. Added 4 JL 10"M10 infinite baffle subs, RF 1000W amp, JL 600, and Audison 400. But still re-thinking the Focals vs JL?? And all new interior coming like you! Again, great job!

Thanks, I appreciate the compliments. It has been a ton of work, but it keeps me occupied during the long winter. Next, I'm looking at updating the 18 year old LCD chartplotter to something a bit more modern.
You can't go wrong with JL Audio. Although, I'm not sure how the 6.5's compare. Mine are 7.7's and sound crystal clear. The previous owner had the JBL amps installed and they work great, so I left them. The 600w amp powers the 8 cockpit 7.7's and the 1500w powers two 12" Kicker subs in a box under the deck. It turns the hull into a sub enclosure and really thumps. |
Cutting into the boat is not my favorite thing, but I got the new Simrad GO5 chartplotter installed today. There was just enough space.

This is how I get my high on 4/20. The boat is washed, waxed, and ready to haul ass!

I haven't been working on any projects for a while. My father had a heart transplant. He spent 2 months in the hospital, followed by 2 weeks in a nursing home, and now nearly 2 weeks staying with us. He's getting healthy enough that I felt comfortable spending some time in the shop today. I've been wanting to replace the lovely plastic stereo cover since I bought the boat and finally got around to it today.

I completely changed the look of the truck from off road to sport truck over the last 6 months, wrapping it up today with a Spectre graphic on the rear window.

Couple more pics of the truck makeover. I ended up making the grille completely white. If I don't stop here, the wife will leave me. :)
