Thumbs up

Mew motor, external steering, IMCO SC drive, additional gauges, addition grab bars for passengers, possibly an intercom set-up.

We have the engine back out this year on the ole 24 Rocket. I may make some minor changes and I am also looking at Hydraulic steering system.

I'm having this internal battle....
It' like there a little devil in my head and an angel battling over whether or not to pull my 51 hout 496/HO out and replace it with my 625HP Whipple Charged 454....

hmmmm????

Jeesh Jeff,
seems like a no brainer to me!

As for myself;
More Boost
Less Soot
Better Steering
Bigger Throttle Bodies (maybe)

Advice to anyone considering hydraulic...
Do not skimp out and just get the external rams for a cable helm. Go full hydraulic all the way to the wheel. I made the mistake of going "half" way, and it actually made the steering much worse than the original internal cable drive / hydraulic assisted system. Just my $0.02

Question

Bayley:

What add-on system did you go with, and are you sure it was functioning properly? Bruce, from this board, recommended I just go with the external WPM dual ram set-up. Said it should function more than adequately.

Doug:

Nothing with the hatch yet. Motor will be installed within the next couple weeks, so we shall see what we have to work with.

I went with a dual ram Mayfair half steering and it's so much better than the original it's hard to describe. I can take my hand off the wheel at 60 MPH to reach down and get something or pick up something and hot have to worry that the boat is heading toward a beach or something.

I value other peoples input on the steering. My plan is a half system, or using my cable back from the helm and a single ram IMCO or WPM. This has been recommeded by the suppliers for my application. I relize that the turning radius will be decreased somewhat which would only affect docking. I have been assured low speed operation would be good. I'm all ears!
