Some pics of hull #3. It will be a poker run boat (less amenities in the cabin) with 700s.

Like the idea, not crazy about the blue flames. They may need to be tweaked a bit. The color is ok, the design looks cheesy.

I've learned stuff like that always look cheesier in rendering format, I'm sure it will look stunning upon completion.

cheesy or not, the blue flames are NOT looking good

Re: Newest F4 - hull 3

I actually like the whole paint job/colors/design except for the flames. They look too Velocity like. Every painter has his "look", Outerlimits had the dagger/scallop look for years, Cigarette has the swirl/hurricane from Dave Hunter, Fountain has a lot of striped boats and Velocity has the flames/ V design. I just think the flames on the deck look like a last minute addition. I think this boat will be at the Miami show so I will see it in person in a few months so maybe it will look better in person but if I were stroking the check, the flames would get extinguished.

I learned a long time ago the best guys to have doing work for you are the ones that have the "trust me" attitude, b/c they are confident enough that once they are done with a project the owner is going to love it. Now there's obviously a line to be crossed if some totally hates a idea, but for the most part the most successful guys are those that stretch the boundaries. My 2.5 cents

Awe, c'mon guys...you're ruthless! Where's yer faith? Have I ever steered you wrong?

Flames can be awesome if they're done right. I enclosed a detail pic from the drawing. If you look closely, there is a secondary pearl ghost flame behind the top flames. The top flames are also shaded and inter-weaved for more dimension. They will also be 'domed' so they look like they are liquid. After all of that is finished, they will look killer.

Velocity, Fountain and some of the others don't go to the extra lenghts to make them look that way....not very often, anyway.

Come to Miami and take a look at it, you're gonna luv it!

Mitcher T is going to hate when I order my F4. Solid black hull with a white deck. No flames, scallops, swirls, swooshes, daggers, swords..................simplicity meets classic.

MT good explanation of the shadowing flames I can't wait to see it in Miami in February.

Mitcher T 11-27-2006 09:46 PM

Re: Newest F4 - hull 3

Thanks for keeping an open mind Jupiter. You are going to give Wayne a stroke, though, when you hit him with this black and white idea. We've had our share of conversations around this F4. Sunsation is making a very valient stand in their entry into this poker run genre. This is a stunning boat, as I'm sure anyone who has seen it will agree. It's exciting to see the enthusiasm surrounding this boat. I love being a part of it.

See you in Miami.

Hey Mitcher T, did you paint this 42X: http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/page-11344.html

It has your "look" and it is one of my favorite boats right now. Price just dropped another 20K this week :D . The blue 38 TG you painted this year for Grand Sport had the same theme.

Mitcher T 11-29-2006 09:44 PM

Re: Newest F4 - hull 3

Nope, i didn't paint the 42X. Sarasota dealer and full custom paint....maybe Dave Hunter.

Hmmm...Sounds like you would paint it just like your favorite boat, the 38' PowerPlay that was for sale by your friend Oliver. Why was it, that you did'nt buy it? It was like new & VERY reasonably priced too. Ed

Ha, Funny you say that because I have thought the same thing for the past few months! Timing was wrong for me on that boat, 45 days later I could have paid cash for that boat but at the time it was too tight. I have seen that boat a few times with the newest owner and he seems to be enjoying it too!

The other thing was that boat was really well known in my area and I didn't want to be mistaken for the other pool guy with the black boat! I have already mentioned to Oliver that I would build an F4 in black and he thought it would be cool since he copied the Playboy Cigarette anyway.
BTW he is hunting down his old 33 PP with OB's. Wants another toy that can break 29 MPH! :D

Boat was clearcoated on Friday and is being sanded and polished right now. It's sweeeeetttttt!!!!

Rick and Dave were here yesterday from the Wharf in Grand Haven. They were extremely happy. They took lots of pics, but I haven't seen them surface here, yet.

I'll take some on Monday if there aren't any on here by then.

Still tweaking it up some. Hope to be finished with it on Thursday. Just about EVERYTHING on this one is painted, so it's taking awhile to be thorough.

It's really looking sweet, though. I can't wait o see it all come together from here.

Re: Newest F4 - hull 3

Looks great Mitch. I think that some painters get into trouble with flames because they don't scale the size of the flames to the size of the boat or they don't lay them out so they flow with the boats lines.
