Sunsation 288 vs Baja 25 Outlaw
I posted this in the Baja forum but figured it might be biased.
I know these boats don't really have much in common but these are what I've narrowed my search down to (so far). Both seem to have a good resale following in my area. The 25OL because it's the largest OL I can get with a single engine. The 288 because it's just about the largest single engine boat I would consider buying. My wife loves the open bow even if unsafe at speeds. How much better or worse do either boat handle? I probably won't be able to "test" a 288. Is the 288 truly 28'8" of hull? I know the 25OL is 25'+ of hull. Although the 25OL is faster with a 496HO... which will handle at speed better? Let's take 60mph... which boat will feel better in 2-3ft chop? All input is welcome! |
You can find some older 29 Outlaws with singles (down at LOTO) but I would not want one. They do make the 26 Outlaw now which has a bigger cockpit than the 25. The 288 is not a true 28' running surface as its LOA includes the molded in swim platform. Are you sure a 25 OL is faster than a 288 with a 496HO? What speeds are people reporting with a HO in a 25? The newer (2005 up) 288 with the stepped hull will run 70 - 72 MPH with an HO. I have not run a 25 in 2 - 3 foot chop but have run a 288 in those conditions and it does surprisingly well if you run the boat level. I think you really need to drive both boats before making a call. Where are you located? My guess is we can set you up with a ride on a 288.

Drive'em both, this will make up your mind. I might be biased, but I bet you'll end up with the 288. Like Knot said, we can find you a test drive even if your not anywhere in our neck of the woods.

O yeah, I just a saw a 29 Outlaw in the classifieds of another site (MWBP) with a single 496HO for sale @ LOTO. Good looking boat, but the individual is probably asking a bit much?

You Sunny guys have any more info? I am in the same situation as Bimmer Boy.
What's a 288 MCOB w/ a MAG run stock in ideal conditions? I think it is safe to assume that we should be comparing the Baja 26 OL with an HO to the 288 MCOB with a MAG. Does anyone have some shots of the 288 in the water? I have never seen one in person. Also, where is the dealer in the Charlotte area? |

With a MAG the 288 should run in the high 60's respectively.
Here is a shot of a 288 we have in stock. This one has the MAG HO. What type of info are you looking for? Performance numbers? Optional equiptment? PM me with your email address Five and I will send you a bunch of pictures of them. Tom |
