Just bought my first Sunsation, 32' Dom
Team Sunsation, I did it, joined the club. Just finalized the purchase on a 2005 32 with 496 HO's. Cant wait for Spring, and some open water (Minnesota). What should this boat run for top speed? Owner said GPS was 83 to 84 MPH at 5,200 RPM's on a good day lightly loaded. Anyone tried 5 blades?
By the way, I am leaving Fountain to join the Sunsation club. I have a 02' 29 with 575 SCI (which is for sale by the way). Looked at 04' 35' Executioner with 500 EFI's. Not even close. The quality and layout of the Sunny rocks. Anyone else running Sunsations in Minnesota, love to hook up with you and hit the water this Spring! |
I'd say those speeds are pretty close to being accurate. I have an '02 with 496HOs and it'll run 81-82 on GPS w/light load, etc.
|
Congrats on your new toy ,wish you the best of luck with it .You should go to the Sunsation web site forums and introduce yourself to the family. You can find out anything you need to know about your boat. Its a great bunch of guys
|

Kanook, sweet ride! 2 questions: what speeds are getting? And, who did the windscreen? Does it work? Does it fit with your cockpit cover?
|
I have merc labbed props that Mike H and Joe S figured out after testing to come up with the best combo for the boat. (I have ser numbers if you want to order a set.) Best speed to date with light fuel and a couple people was 86.5 gps(have gps Picture on phone) 82-83 every day. that is a stock Sunsation wind screen. yes the cover was made to fit around it.
:p |
How was your hole shot and mid range with the labbed merc's? Last time I tried a labbed props they were slippery out of the hole and didn't hook up until top end. If you can keep the low end, and get 86 MPH, I definately want the serial numbers.
|
Mentalpause had labbed Bravo I 4-blades on his 2000 Dominator with 454 MAG's and the hole shot and mid-range were stellar. I drove the boat many times and it had no problems coming up onto plane.

Props are 15 1/4" 31s bravo one 4 blades. labbed by merc racing. 920-924-2037, you give them these ser # and they can make the same prop. be ready to spend some $$$ though. :) Right side serial # K 0 4 1 4 5 0 Left side # K 0 4 1 4 5 1 |
That is great to know. I am going to run the boat, and probably go for the labbed props, love speed!!! I saw your post a while ago and the clips you used on your last Dominator. Will they work on the new dash style? Do you have the phone number for the guy who made them?

It does have the glove box and with the speedo and mirror, I dont think the continous one would work. I was thinking I would do the two sections, one for each side.
|
You can do the two piece. the difference is night and day with the wind shield. looks like you have enough of a lip to do at the very least a two piece.
|
Sweet, do you have the phone number for the guy who made the clips?
|
I'll check and see if I still have a spare clip. I'll send it to you and you can see if it will fit your fairing. then you can just take it to a local machine shop and have them made up.
|
Wow, talk about good support, no wonder everyone wants to be in the Sunsation group! If you have an extra clip that would be much appreciated. Send to: Doug Overvold, 4020 Spruce Road, Minnetrista, MN 55375.

Congratulations on the new purchase!! Welcome to the family.
:D Its going to a long few months until the first run:eek: |
Claude, your the best. Looking at the new style dash they came out with in 2005, it is completely different that the 2004 and prior. I will make something work, and let you, as there are a lot of people looking for wind screen protection.

not a problem.

Questions
Dovervold,
Congrats on your new boat! Looks Great. I currently own a 28 Nordic Heat MCOB. Love it, but am being prompted to look at something with a Head/Porta Pot. Still want the MCOB. Is the head useful in this boat? 32ft? In pictures I have looked at seems cabin may be cramped? At least the seat next to head. Also somewhere I read that Sunnys are narrower beam? Build quality? Seems Sunsation is the only "Eastern" (East of Mississippi)company building a MCOB? Love the looks. Am considering a 5 hour drive to check one out. Thanks for any input!! I am on the fence. |
Hey JNS,
~In a 32' Sunsation MCOB, you have an "enclosed" head with pumpout. ~The seat in the MCOB next to the head will actually seat 2 people comfortably. I will post some pictures for you tomorrow when I am back at the Marina. ~The beam on the 32' is 8'1" MCOB or Closed bow. I can send you a bunch of pictures of the interior on a 32 to give you an idea of how much room is in the cabin of a MCOB. Hope this helps, Tom

I am concerned about moving to a narrower beam than what I have now. What speed to expect from twin 496's? In the Heat we are still able to tube and ski (sort of). Am also considering if a twin 496 SS is up for this challenge too? Look forward to photos if not too much problem. Jeff |
