I just got off the phone with Ray from RAYLAR who was a pleasure to deal with.I placed my order for a 525 HP engine upgrade kit.First stop will be to Extreme Vehical Builders (EVB) for electronics upgrades ,stereo, chart plotter etc... Then off to guys at Mahopac Marine for performance upgrades motor, drive ,prop and steering etc... I can't wait to get started. I will try to post some pics thru the various stages of the upgrades.

nice job kevin. im excited to see this happen. good luck to you.

dovervold 02-23-2008 08:29 AM

Good luck, I am also looking to upgrade my speed on a 2005 Dom with HO's. What do you think you are going to spend with the RAYLAR kit, install, and prop?

I'm thinking around $10k give or take a grand without steering for a single motor application.

Congrats Kevin!!
Can't wait to run with you with the new power:D
That's a lot dough; hope you get the performance out of the upgrade.

Thanks ! Even with the upgrades the only way I'll be keeping up with you is if you throw me a line off your stern. After the upgrades I'd be LUCKY to see 80. Most of the guys I'm running locally are all running in the low 70's so I was looking to get a little more for bragging rights.Plus with this kit I can still run 87 octane fuel and retain the stock exhaust to keep the noise down around the docks etc...

Nice upgrade!

Just counting the dayz!

You'll love your boat after the Raylar upgrade. The kit is a very nice fit. Looks great and runs even better! Equal if not more important; Ray is a really great guy and has a very sincere interest in the performance boating industry. A good person to deal with usually means a good product and a happy customer at the end. I'm already 27 hours old, running pretty hard, and ZERO complaints. We installed the BCK-103 Kit @ 280 hours. Currently has 307 hours on it.

One thing to keep in mind - -

During my install, we took advantage of that nice big oil pan and how it was designed to basically support the engine while sitting flat on the floor. However, this will compress your oil pan gasket just a little and you will have a couple, few loose oil pan bolts. After sitting it down for however long, just put some locktite on them and re-install.

Ed Noonan from West Coast Yacht & Marine Service did my engine. His screen name is "Westcoast". Excellent source for info on the install. Labor and quality of job is unmatched. I promised him that I would ask around and try to get some rides from fellow OSO'ers during/after the Havasu Desert Storm 2008. We'll be out there looking to make some new friends and check out all the cool rides.

Feel free to send pm if you need any help or whatever.
Jason

I'm running the same drive ,I was a little concerned if it could handle the additional load. My dealer said I should be fine as long to abuse it to much.

How much of an increase did you see top end ,and are you running Hyd steering?

An update on the slow progress. The motor was pulled about 2 weeks ago. But due to some shipping issues the motor project has been at a stand still. There has been some progress in the electronics upgrades but also slow. I'm hopeing this is the week everything will start to happen.

Tell me about it . There was a couple of delays beyond Raylars control. Which Ray has proven to be a stand-up guy who stands by his products once again. I was on the phone with Ray yesterday the kit should be arriving in the next few days. Thank god for the colder weather or I would be sucking on a gas pipe right about now.

Are you running in the NYC poker run ?

Myself and a few others are scheduling a course with TRES MARTIN on the river for the end of the month let me know if your interested.

update on the upgrade

Due to delays in reicieving my kit beyond Raylars control. I couldnt wait any longer and decided to pull the trigger on a Whipple supercharger & XR drive instead. The Guys at Mahopac Marine had the kit & motor installed the day after it was reiceved like a Nascar pitcrew .We are now waiting for the reflashed computer from Whipple to start prop testing.

The chart plotter & sterio system upgrades are also nearing completion with a 700watt Kicker Marine amp with 2 - 10" subs and 6- 6' mids .

After the Hoilday weekend the plan is to install the IMCO full hyd steering system.

I'll post some pics tommorrow.

Gunrunner72 05-21-2008 08:00 PM

Too bad about the Raylar kit--I was VERY interested in the results.:(

Me too . Ray was a real stand up guy and was upfront about the problems they were having getting parts . But I am still thinking about going with the kit minus the intake for next season.Raylar & Whipple has a nice ring to it.

Here are some pictures of Kevin's engine. It is now in the boat and the rigging is being taken care of.

yesrej 05-23-2008 11:26 AM

sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pi75 05-23-2008 11:33 AM

What exactly was the delay. I,m about to order a kit for a customer and I was under the impression 3days- week is all it took to ship out.

live wire 05-23-2008 09:11 PM

First pass today with the Whipple ran 79 mph gps @ 5100 rpm with a FULL tank of gas and 3 POB . With a little more fine tuning and lighter load the boat should have no problem clicking off low to mid 80's .Thanks again Mahopac Marine for all your hard work getting the boat put back together for the weekend.

I'll post some pic's and more accurrite numbers after the weekend.

talon25 05-27-2008 02:06 PM

Great to see you got her all whippled up and back on the water. Have fun, see you on the river.

I think I have you to thank for the upgrade . Ever since you blew past me last fall.

I was up around gullies a few times this weekend looking for you for another shot at the title. But I still think I have a little work to do . I'll be running a 5 blade this weekend see if that gets me into the 80's.

Kevin

yesrej 05-27-2008 04:29 PM

nice job!! glad to hear you are back on the water. good luck with the boat.
