MCOB's aren't going to be any slower than the closed deck versions. If both the cabin doors are open then the air will flow through the cabin with no resistance.

The V-berth is worthless in closed deck boats in FL due to the heat. With the MCOB the mid cabin has a nice breeze flowing through it at idle or slow speed. You get shade and a breeze!

!

From a sales point of view I would love that to be true Scott. We have run both CB and MCOB side by side and the CB wins everytime. Not by much, but it does. Too much turbulence in the cabin once it enters the bow opening.

There are a lot more variable to contend with such as who has more in the boat, how much fuel, and the varied HP in each of the 496's.

But overall, I would say they are damn close but the CB usually pulls away. Doesnt run away, but walks away.

That air flowing up over the bow, down the steps and back up through the door you talk about etc. Is called air drag. It's more noticeable at higher speeds. Once your able to hit the 70 mark u might see it more lmao

is there a difference in rough water handling? ( Lake Michigan) I`m really starting to like the 32' midcabin set up.. this way the kids got somewhere else to go instead of us being on top of each other..

There is no difference in handling between the two. Yes, you may get a bit more wind through the cabin, but, you're gonna be do about 80 anyways, so wind, is wind. If you're interested, I have a 2007 32 Dom SS for sale with low hours. 496hos.

This is EXACTLY why I want a mid-cabin, my kids bring their friends with my friends, and boom my cockpit is packed. Too hot to be in the cuddy in the TX daytime heat.

I like mid/open bow alot better than closed bow where we boat in Lake Havasu, but a few weekends a year I wish it was a closed bow so I dont have to deal with all the people. Frank

No they did not. The smallest MCOB would be the 288.
