I can tell you that in the state of maryland you cant title a boat unless someone signs the current title over to you........................................... If you dont title the boat in your name then how do you sign it over???????????????????................ and if you have the old title and its in the person you bought it from's name then signing that title would be considered forgery, which Im under the impression is against the law and so was the lady at the bank that wouldnt except the forged document.................... So what do I have to read??????? If you are in a state that doesnt require you to register the boat then maybe thats the case but surely not in md

im not quite sure why someone wouldnt title a boat in a state that requires it unless you were trying to get out of paying the state taxes on the purchase/sale of the boat, if you get caught then you will owe the original amount then you will be penalized for each month not registered, just happend to a friend of mine who tried to only coast guard certify his boat... then went to pay for the new sticker for the boat and got F!!!ed

I bought my boat from a guy in Colorado and it was never titled. He was the original owner and Colorado did not require boats to be titled, just the trailer. They did require it to be registered however. All I had to do was apply for a title in Louisiana once I purchased the boat and I had no problems getting the title.
