Looking for Dominator

Hey all, i am looking to buy a 2001 to 2005 dominator or maybe even a 2006 ss if it is a good deal. Let me know if you see any good deals out there, pretty flexible on options, 496 ho's would be nice.

JETDOC 10-26-2012 09:11 PM

Get on the sunsation.com forums too for a look

neva satisfied 10-28-2012 09:22 AM

Good luck...there is not too many out there in that year range. There seems to be quite a few older ones and allot of newer ones.

AJ POWERPLAY 11-05-2012 10:02 AM

There are a few newer style dominators around... but i wish you luck when it comes to getting the owners down in to a realistic price range... for what a few owners are asking, you can have yourself an 04-05 Cig Top Gun 525/XR boat. But who knows maybe the Gun isn't as nice or doesn't ride as well...? :lolhit:

It's too bad Plowboy's boat recently sold... that would have been the one to have

I have an 03 Dominator with 496 mags for sale. I can send some more info if you would like.

How does the boat run with the mag's vs ho?

AJ POWERPLAY 11-09-2012 09:14 AM

I think its a 4-5 mph difference BUT all you need is to do a cam swap and get the HO computers... that is the only difference. Contact 'boatnt' and inquire on it, he has done two pairs of 496MAG to 496HO conversions. Its worth the money and you will get it back in resale value.

Captain YARRR 11-09-2012 09:23 AM

I don't know if others are like this, but after I bought my Dominator, I haven't been able to quit looking at them after. Based on my boat and others I know, people in the market are out of their minds on pricing lately. Almost across the board you could offer $15k less and not feel bad about giving them a reality check.

Mid 70's vs. 80 in most cases.

And drill the air bleed hole out in the throttle plate for the lumpier cam. Some don't do it but it really should be drilled out.

It's not just on Sunny's as AJ would like you to think it is. I've seen what I believe are unrealistic prices on many different brands. My take is as a seller you can always go down but pretty hard to go up on your asking price! :lolhit:

AJ POWERPLAY 11-09-2012 02:46 PM

Ahhh come on Knot! Don't come dragging me through the mud!!:D :lolhit:
Btw my boat is for sale... And based off the MattBMiller 2012 price guide, I think its a fair deal @ $90k... This one won't last long!!

I have found out that its not that a potential buyer does not think your boat is worth what you may be asking. Its that your boat is only worth what a bank is willing to lend for it. I had an approval on a loan, srove four hours to look at it, made the deal on a 32 fountain fever. Only to have the underwriter pull the approval when they discovered it was a fountain. Then when I raised enough hell the underwriter gave the approval back but limited the amount they would lend to 80% of used trade in value!!!!!!!! Mind you my credit score was mid-high 700's, debt to income was 19% and the max was 45%, and my wife was also on the loan application. Basically its tough sleding for potential buyers and the high performance end of things seems to be worse.

AJ POWERPLAY 11-09-2012 08:43 PM

Gotta find a new institution my friend, I was in and out in 10 minutes with 720 CS and higher debt/income than what u had. They were just jerking ya around to be Aholes! Unfortunately those of us that pay our bills have to pay the price from those who do not... (*cough *cough... Jupiter....*cough)

JETDOC 11-09-2012 11:46 PM

Try a smaller local bank instead of any mega bank. It took me less than 5 mins to get approved when I bought 2.5 years ago. I had 35% to put down tho

100% correct. Keep in mind a brand new 32/6.2 boat in 2004 was 99K (with Mitcher T paint and McCleod interior). Sunsation called it a "break out" promotion (288 was 79K w/496 H0).

Yet Shogren has this 04 32 6.2 boat listed at 69K: http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o47821-en.html

Boat lost 30K in 9 years.....but part of the reason was the "boom" pushed 32's into the mid 100's and heavily optioned into the 200's. Some 288's got into the mid-100's heavily optioned.

It is not just Sunsation, a new 35/496 HO Executioner could be had in the 120's in 2003-05 yet that same boat today is 73K : http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o44825-en.html

or 80K http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o48328-en.html

Hi ,

I have an 03 with 500efi , the hull has less than 60hrs, let it go well below book value.

Aww did i hurt your feelings? Maybe you should have sold one of those "paid off" suburbans to make your boat payment before you ended up a star on 'Repo Game's... Lmao

Chefke- any pics? Sounds like a deal

Believe it or not Pat from active thunder boats is the one that hooked me up with her. I was looking at a sonic he had and he referred me. They got the deal done on the sonic. Sold the sonic then they couldn't get me in the Fountain. Next time I think im trying the credit union route.

kbrew23 11-10-2012 04:52 PM

These guys are correct. Mid 70's compared to 80. My friend that has a place next to me at the lake, just did the cam upgrade to his 496 mags. He said he is getting 80 at top speed. He had CMI headers put on too. That is a bunch of money for 6 mph.

You must have me mixed up with someone else or your post stalking failed you......I have never owned a Suburban. :lolhit:

Boat was part of a much bigger picture, no repo just a case of "get your boat off my trailer"..... Sold the trailer, stopped the storage and insurance and moved on....apparently something you can't do. :D

Yea sounds like a big chunk of change just to say I can do 80.

AJ POWERPLAY 11-11-2012 10:07 AM

Lies... You got your boat repossessed, plain and simple. I'd be embarrassed too.

Sonickevin- I hear the HO's are actually more fuel efficient to run in the dominator hull as well, I think it would be worth it bc of the resale you would gain

You are acting that letting your boat go back to the bank is a cool thing. I bet you voted for change as well. You are part of the problem NOT the solution!!!!!

Nope, just not going to let AJ give me any crap about it. It was a small piece in a bigger picture/ asset protection game. Florida has very specific rules on what can be/can't be protected and the boat wasn't one of them. I knew it, my lawyer knew it and it was not negotiable so the I called the bank and told them they need to come and get it. I met their transporter at the boat ramp and swapped it on/off trailers. End of story.

AJ POWERPLAY 11-11-2012 03:39 PM

It doesn't matter what any states guidelines are, you don't have to worry about it if you just pay the bill...

SonicKevin- I believe it was a little over 2k a side but in my opinion you would be gaining that back in value vs keeping the mags

THE 288 KID 11-11-2012 04:21 PM

I wanted to buy the orange red and yellow (innovator paint job) 04' dominator in New Hampshire before I got the a/t. Unfortunately "Lisa" the owner has a crystal meth problem and wouldn't come off like 100k or some other outrageous asking price. It's like, hello?! Check the god Damn market you crazy coots!

I was also including the fact that his neighbor put after market headers on the motors as well. Im sure thats expensive. You are probably right about the fuel efficiency, maybe cruising a few rpm's less and achieving the same speed would pay off in the long run, and be better resale. Ive never bin on a twin engine dominator. I would imagine with twin ho's the boat has to be silly fast! The single engine dominator my buddy had for years was VERY impressive.

AJ POWERPLAY 11-12-2012 01:54 PM

I saw and chatted with the owner of one of the single dominators up at torch... It had the purple checkers with yellow fade up front... Konrad drive. I think he said it ran around 80. Twin HO's in a 32 have been reported anywhere from 80-85 for the non-stepped version, they are lighter and accelerate faster but give up a few mph on top without the steps. They do have a sleeker profile in the water than the stepped version though in my opinion

POWERPLAY J 11-12-2012 02:00 PM

Old style with HO's high 70's - low 80's. New style mid 80's, upper 80's with a lil work here and there.

kbrew23 11-15-2012 09:28 PM

The cost of two sets of headers =$ 11, 000. The coast of sending his two motors to Houston to have them, reworked to the HO's ? That is why I said it was a bit of cash to go 80 MPH.

What what kind HP was he running to do 80 with a single? Must have been quite a beast.

AJ POWERPLAY 11-16-2012 10:21 AM

YARR- he had a big supercharged motor putting out around 650-700 or so I believe, it has been a while since I talked to him, running a 5-blade off a konrad drive and an extension box. Unique setup for sure. One of the intake vents on the side was modified as an outlet port for the intercooler
