My boat has the Mag's not the HO and I have had it to 78 on GPS, my buddies best with the HO's has been 83. My friend's 01 now has around 600 hard hours on it and he can just barley hit 80. The one I water tested, with the 6.2, was in light chop but full of fuel and three grown men in the boat. We could only get it to 67 on GPS. Maybe someone else with the 6.2's can confirm this number.

Heres the story on upgrading the 6.2s. You will need a new cam for sure, new intake absolutely, porting of heads, exhaust, dyno fee and then tuning fee. Then a bunch of odds and ends. There is no picking and choosing, you have to do it all if you want it to be worth your time.

If I remember right...we are expecting 65 gph fuel burn when mine are finished. I think that's still less than big blocks.

As for top speed, I've seen between high 60s to a max of 72 depending on conditions. I've driven a twin 496 HO Dominator and it is faster with more mid-range but for me...I'd go 6.2s again. The only time I want more is at poker runs.

I had a 2004 32 MCOB 6.2 boat (older non twin step hull)........best was 73.4 on handheld GPS coming back from Key West with fumes and 3 aboard. The benefits are a gallon a minute fuel burn at WOT and lower insurance. Boat is quick out of the hole spinning 23s, a buddy had a 2005 spinning 24 4 blades with similar results. Note the 2006 and newer hull is slightly heavier and carries 50 gallons more fuel but has the twin step hull.

Buy the boat and enjoy it, forget mods.......the motors aren't that strong for them internally. Only thing with that boat was on poker runs, running WFO you would be at the pace that other boats were cruising at.

No, I'm saying modded 6.2's will burn more fuel that stock 6.2's. So if fuel consumption is your main concern, I'd leave the mills stock. Actually if fuel consumption is that big of a concern I'd question why you are buying a 32' twin engine offshore boat to begin with.

IMO if you are changing your mind back and forth on going with 496s vs 6.2s, go with the 496s. You will be glad you did the first time you firewall the throttles and can get to 80. Plus if gas is actually a concern, that is best remedied by cruising at 40mph than any other way.

Bob Lloyd at Full Throttle Marine. I'm having a lot of different custom things done. Without breaking it down, I would expect around 15k plus, parts and labor installed.
