Default 2008 32 Sunsation gone to soon

A couple close to us was very unlucky this past Friday at Kuttawa Cannonball Run. They were leaving the raft up and had just gotten on plane when they hit a submerged underwater tree. They had no idea they had hit something large, as they felt a litttle bump, until water started coming out of the cuddy door and it was to late as the motors shut down when turning towards the bank. Luckily there were a few people right with them during all of this. Nobody was injured and the boat sank within 30 to 40 seconds resting nose up in 20ft of water. They said they were lucky the life jackets were under the back seat and not in the cuddy. After this we will be keeping our 2 life jackets close by in the cockpit. Here's a few photo's from during and after getting it out of the water. As you can see in the photo it ripped the keel like a can opener.

That is some sad news
Glad it wasn't worse for the passengers.

Reckon it was a waterlogged submerged log or a stump?

I think my buddy may have ordered that boat. Going to check with him now.

We've been told that it is a submerged tree that is hiddden at summer pool level and will only be seen at winter pool level. I'm very suprised someone hasn't marked it at some point.

Damn that sucks
I'm glad they're ok though and got away safely. After seeing that, I'm going to start hanging our life vests on the back of the bolsters just in case.

I heard the same thing, but I'm not that familiar with the area/submerged log - and I rarely venture down that far on the lake. I chatted with him and I could tell his feelings were hurt - he truly loved that boat. It sucks. However, I'm happy that there were no personal injuries. Everything went right under the circumstances - very prepared captain.

We were rafted up to this couple all afternoon and it's heartbreaking to see such a gorgeous, badass boat sitting on the bottom of the lake. I saw him hit the log in the distance...it launched the boat out of the water like hitting a cruiser wake...which is what I thought happened. Almost hit the log/tree myself...length and diameter of a damn telephone pole floating outside the mouth of the cove.

Came around the bend a minute later and saw the bow pointing up out of the lake. Talk about sick to your stomach.

Glad that everyone was ok!!
