Any idea when OSS and SBI/APBA will be releasing their 2006 schedules? Even preliminary ones?

Re: 2006 Schedules

SBI/APBA/UIM schedule should be out by the end of the week. Pretty much the same schedule as its been for the last 5-10 or so years...11 -12 confirmed races so far plus KEY WEST. Possible a few new suprises, Panama City is on the schedule as a National event and a 5 five deal has been signed.

Re: 2006 Schedules

Frank,

You forgot to mention the announcement in Key West that the 2006 SBI/APBA/UIM World Championship races in Key West will held one-week earlier. Races will be run on Wed, Fri, & Sun to give the teams a day between races and time to repair their equipment. Can you imagine the party on Duval Street Friday night with no races on Sat?

If OSS sticks to their 2005 schedule, there will not be a conflict between the two organization's Worlds events. I hear they have an awesome schedule...just hope they don't try to divide the racers by stacking races on top of SBI's long standing dates.

Re: 2006 Schedules

Frank....so what you are saying is that the SBI National schedule will once again be flordia based? Is there any hope for SBI to travel outside flordia next year?(besides NY and Reggieville).

Re: 2006 Schedules

Q,

Like I said you will see the same schedule you've seen in past years. SBI has signed mult. year contacts with the cities we race with. 11 possible 12 National races on the schedule this year all paying sites. The problem like other orginization are finding out there are plenty of cities to race in but not cities that want to pay. That is a lose lose all the way around !!!

Q,

While Panama City is technically a Florida race. The locals consider themselves more or less LA

Lower Alabama

LA... I like that I'll have to use that line.

Pete,
The money goes to our organization !!!
So the bill can get paid instead of indivduals paying $100,000.00 out of pocket for a entire race. Or all the teams having to pay double entry free to make up the looses.
Wow I would hope thats the way you would run your bussiness, instead of finding out last min. that yiu are in the RED for the year.

Re: 2006 Schedules

Pete ,

This thread is about the schedules !!!
The money end of it and a profitable organization is a different lesson and different thread. Lets keep this about the schedule. If you want to give me a call I can try and give you more detail and fact that might help.
Again not that this is the place for it but just one quick note...FYI a race like KW cost between $500,000.00 to $600,000.00 to put on where do you think the money comes from.Thats why an organization need to make money to pay its bill like any other business. I hope this isn't a big surprise to any one !!! If it is they need to go back to business 101.

Re: 2006 Schedules

Frank,
I think I'm beginning to undestand. When everyone chips in a little to make it happen it's like the Post Office. When it's in business to make a profit it's like Fed-Ex. SQ

Is there any chance of a race in Fort Myers beach around the middle of May? We are planning on a weeks vacation if Fort Myers and would like to see some racing again like they did before last I was sorry SBI and Fort Myers couldn't work things out. What about any races in Grand Haven, Michigan also?

Thanks.

Re: 2006 Schedules

Q,

Just for some insite.....

1. I want to race were the city's want us...I don't care if all the races are in Fl. If the citys are willing to pay and role out the red carpet then lets go...
2. So you know..you can get more sponsors and more money when you will be promoting a company that say is based in FL.
when you will be making apperances and races for them. ie Lauderdale, Diana Beach and Deerfield Beach....you have the best shot on locking a sponsor base in these areas then anywere else because of the amount of promotion they will get....vice go to a city that dose not even promote a race and no one even know's there is going to be a race that weekend and have the sponsor show up and there are no fans....that's nothing but the kiss of death....
3. When you have a 11 or 12 race season...it is very expensive to travel all around the country....remember were trying to get more teams out to race....making the cost to travel triple will not help us...
4. Remember....this is not OSS were most teams have been racing for a while and have deep pockets....SBI/APBA has P class racing and can't travel say from N.J. to Corpus,
5. By having a good number of races in a central locations, it helps because you can store your boats in that central area and just fly into that race vice putting 75k miles on your tralier
6. Lets also not forget how big Fl. is....using OSS's schedule for example...they had races in Orange Beach, Pickwick, Ft Meyers, St. Pete and had Pensicola on there schedule..
the distance from Orange Beach to Pensicalo is just a rocks throw, to Pickwick..what a few hundred miles...Ft. Meyers to St. Pete a hundred miles or so....Outside of St Clair and Corpus all there races were in close to each other...

So you see Q...its not the location of the races its th quality of the race site....and Fl. has a lot of great race sits...ask any racer or fan..

Maybe one day a schedule will be one that takes the racers all over the country...but lets hope we get some big money to offset the cost for it....

Re: 2006 Schedules

Gino, I agree with you on many of your points. I'm just laugh when I hear of a "national" schedule when 95% of the races are in flordia. The point about no fans showing up I have to agree with you....it has been the kiss of death. Every flordia race that I have done over the past two years I think I recall a couple hundred specators at the most at any given one(except key west). I would call that a kiss of death.

2005
1. Miami-beaches and pits empty
2.Marathon- couple hundred on the bridge(motorcycle show going on), pits empty
3.Laurderdale-lots of people there(air show going on), pits empty

2004
1. Washington-good turn out from fans......but what else do they have to do(they live in washington NC) :D
2.NY city- couple hundred,pits empty
3.Key West-----well its Key West-great turn out
4.Deerfield Beach- no one on the beach, pits empty

I usually judge "fan" turnout on how the flow of the pits are and generally they are poor at best. This is not meant to bash anyone just a simple observation.

OSS schedule from 2005 visited 6 different states in 7 races...that is a little closer to a "national" schedule
SBI schedule from 2005 visited 3 different states out of 11 races.

You are also correct on the expense incurred on traveling to these race sites. I know I have done the 95 run more than once. But what makes it more evident is the lack of southern teams comming to NY for the national race there.

There is no simple solution....nor do I have the answer, but I call a spade a spade. SBI does not have a national schedule.

Xtremeracing 12-04-2005 07:14 PM

Re: 2006 Schedules

Thanks for all the input Q its been very helpful. I agree OSS did visit 6 different cities with 7 races and are broke Hummm what does that tell you. I'm sure SBI/APBA will find some better sites next year. If you have any suggestions of good paying site please let us know, and we'll get right on it.

I guess some of us are just happy to have 12of the best paying race site to race at, which allows us to do what we enjoy...Racing...try it.

Re: 2006 Schedules

Whats goin on in St Cloud?? Great venue, dry pits very close to wet pits. Wet pits always the best.

Marathon.. If I remember, where do fans park for the dry pits?
I drove in and got stopped by 4 cops (They were very polite). Thanks to ladies of APBA/SBI I got a parking pass. There was more than enough room for 100s of slots for controlled parking.
There are at least 3 wet pit areas which makes it appear as though there is a small crowd..

Parking for the viewing area is known as cardiac hill.
The large area reserved for nite orgies should be open for race fans during the day. Even these LD bones can walk to the viewing area without needing Ben Gay or Oxegen.

Ft Lauderdale and Dania Beach Dry pits 17 miles from business/hotels and minimal parking due to Air show (Ft Lauderdale)

Sarasota dry pits moved from great area to about 10 miles away and not obvious to public. . This is 2nd only to ST Cloud for wet/dry pit viewing area accessability/proximity

St Pete.. OSS with dry pits 20 miles from wet pits/launch. Limited parking and viewing areas. Fans loved the Pier.

2005 is really not a fair year to pass judgement due to record
huricane /storm events affecting travel all over.

[QUOTE]Stop sending the Pete & Ben's . Man up . Speak for your'e selve's !

You dont have to worry they dont send us, but like most people that view the milling area, they take most of what is said at face value. You keep posting, how great SBI/APBA/UIM/WPR is and if thats what you like good,
There are many good people associated with that organization. Now on to the real agenda why worry about what OSS is doing so what they were in the red BFD, so are most of the airlines and people still fly. They are bringing the Sport to a National level, racing in areas that have never had races,
getting new FANS, helping communities that have been ravaged by storms. The members of OSS are like family, yes some of the members have had to use their own money to help support the cause, they do this for not only the love of the sport, but because they are not SELFISH.

On that note all you so called voices of reason, do yourself a favor learn to spell, or use the spell check that OSO has provided, when the sponsor's
read about all the good work you're doing, they want to make sure people understand it, and that a 7 yr old isnt writing it.

Merry Christmas

Once again if you are not in favor of OSS why WORRY about them according to all the nay sayers, they wont be around long enough to matter! The constant bashing of OSS, really shows they are gaining more momentum. And 2006 will be a banner year!

As for owning my own business, NO I enlisted and served the country for 22 years, but if I did, many of the members of OSS would be my Role models for that approach.

Sorry some of you dont share the same opinions but thats what is so great about this country. As for the milling area, i know most wont be happy until all OSS banter is off, and All the OSS no longer post, then your world will be complete.

Merry Christmas

Pete,

Once again, Do you race....or are you just a fan or help drive some boats to the races..I can't believe you of all people are going to write on here "if you are not in favor of OSS why WORRY about them". You have been one of the biggest SBI bashers on here.....
And your analogy of how SBI racers want all OSS racers off OSO is so far from the truth....they would be nothing better to get all racers who want to share there opinion on OSO to make the sport better...but get rid of the none racers who post there B.S.

and yes this comment was from a seven year old who will not use spell check and owns a team and has the sponsors to back it up and pay to race....not bad for a youngin......

Frank,
That is the Million dollar question everyone wants answered,
I wish I had the answer to your question, unfortunately I dont!
So until their schedule comes out we are all left in mystery, how ever,
We all want 2006 to be a great year, for Racer's, Fan's, and all the people behind the scenes that make Offshore racing exciting.
I'm sure where ever it is, it will be a first class event. That will make the Fans and Racer's both glad they attended. :drink:

On that note, may you and your family have a happy holiday season.

Re: 2006 Schedules

Pete,

Freedom of speech is great....but read the post Steve put up on the milling circle....its not freedom of speech when if your not a racer to speek....this is why this section has lost so many racers....the non racers BS
Thats the voice of reason I am speeking of...
I think there was nothing wrong with Phantom's question...and starting this thread...it was just a question for info...even answered by a OSS racers and letting us know what is in the works....thats all we want....but read on and you will see it was not a SBI racer that started problems.....

So you see, once again...the racers are not the problem on here....its the non racers.....the racers just want to race...

Don't get me wrong...there are guys on here that are non racers that post info or congratulate teams....I think thats great....but you know the BS I'm talking about and you have been one that dose it....I hope you put a stop to it or I for one hope Steve takes you out of here along with others who are the problem for 2006....

The buttom line is some of us racers want us all to race as one....and if we don't we at least have a oppertunity to race both Organizations....but if you take away the cheerleaders...this section will be much better for the sport and the racers....and the funny thing is....thats why Steve started this section.....

Re: 2006 Schedules

Go to the Fountain web site,I am sure it tells all,no rule enforcement, wonderful Fountain exposure and etc.The only way this will ever be corrected is if we fix the problem at large,All the racers race together not in different series on the same weekends because that sucks,PERIOD.What the ideal situation would be is that the so called RICH BOYS CLUB As Klaatu called it bought John C out and called it THE SUPERBOAT INTERNATIONAL OFFSHORE SUPER SERIES and enforced rules and specs than maybe we could do something, until we all merge we are all just PISSIN in the wind, and that is a fact just look at the difference in attendence since Mike A has not been involved, with sponsors and attendence and new venues,so you guys can argue until you are BLUE in the face, either we all race together as one with some divisional races or we find something else to PISS OUR Money away on,Period.OSS AND SBI & APBA all need to race together and if you all can not see that than please find another sport to follow because you are not in it for the sport.

The SBI schedule is the same as last year. Other then 1 Marathon race this year in May, and the June Marathon date will be a new site. Also another race will be put on the schedule in Sept. Hope that helps, if you need any other info or exact dates give me a call.

I will also try to keep everyone up to date on the OSS schedule. As we talk and things change I will try to post it. After my conversation with them today I posted about Vegas.

Klaatu,I am not a OSS or SBI or APBA hater, and further more I dont even dislike you because I really have only met you a few times, what I do want is only the best for the sport and that is all,I think what Frank is doing for the Factory classes is great,I also know that both organizations are very head strong in there beliefs and we are not going to change that.I know that I am not a key player when it comes to making decisions nor are you,so as I said all I want is what is best for the sport, for all involved together not seperated and that is all and I hope you enjoy your Holidays,SIR
