Ken,

Thanks for responding to the questions I asked. You are really making good judgements on the future of boat racing based on the history of what has worked in the past.

I took some time to come up with a new names for the class. I picked one for you.

I think it will be great for the class and Offshore Racing...

I also think the 42 mile race is so much better, I always thougth the 52 mile racers in Factory 1 was perfect and the 90+ miles in Super Vee was a little bit...with the race speeds being so close to each others...by the end of the 42 miles, you will see all boats on the same lap and within seconds of each other...
It will be like the old days when there will be 3 boats racing for 1st and yet 3 or 4 boats racing for 4th...and the fans will be able to follow it...

97% of the time you never had F1 boats lapping anybody....and sometimes even 5 to 6 boats racing for the 1st place spot...

and again...with no one having to go out and spend money on changing equipment, its just a hudge plus for all the racers.....

If ever there was a easy Class to put together....this one sumes it up the most, because of the number of boats that fit in that are out there...no one has to go and build one...there already out there for sale and are affordable...and what better place to promote your boat for sale then racing a 2, 3, 4 or even a 5 year old race boat and running in 1st place...

This is a great thing for Offshore Racing...

With the addition of the Super Cat Series starting up with 5 to 8 boats and the Stock Class back to 5 boats, P-5 and P-4 Class having 5+ boats now registered and this new Class that will have a min. of 6 boats...and OPA having there P-Class's and racing in Key West...

This year will start the comeback of Offshore Racing...

Pat,

Thanks for the name suggestion....It might just work.

We have put together a racing format that incorporates the very best of many Classes. Where this format fits into the SBI/APBA lineup, how it is applied, and what it is called, is up to the Board of Governors.

We should know something soon. The final draft has been submitted for review.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions, insight, technical and historical advice, and support.

Special thanks to the following teams who committed to a concept without knowing the details. Their support gave us the five-team minimum required to take this to the Board.

Bad Boys
Muscle
Red Line
Mid-American
Reichman Motorsports
You're In Command

Most of all...

Thank you John Carbonell, and the SBI/APBA Board for allowing us the opportunity to develop an idea, create a format, and give it due consideration.

When was the last time a Class had 5 different Manufactures racing against each other...with still Bill M. Skater to maybe enter the group...

The last time we seen this was in the good old days of Factory Racing....

Shane B 05-21-2007 11:05 AM

Gino why race only 42 miles?

MANITIE 05-21-2007 11:23 AM

Hey Shane,

We have been racing 42 miles because thats what P-Class was...also pending water conditions...John C. was nice enough to come up to our class as ask us that we could choose how ever many laps we decided was good...

We could run as many laps as we want and John C would be good with it...but I'm good with 48 or so...but why not..

The benifits of shorter distances:

1. Most of SBI/APBA races are rough water...
2. Running long distance races just spreads out the field and you have boats being lapped.
3. It's less wear on equipment
4. It makes the race to the finish a lot closer...
5. Plus SBI/APBA has a long season with 14 or so races when most Organizations only run half the races...

What are the bennifits to racing 75 to 100 mile races...

cshantry 05-23-2007 04:38 PM

gino dosnt Bills boat have 6s on it and was one of the fastest sv built I THOUGHT that the reason for this class was for the bravo boats ? For that mater can Brett run in this class to or Nigels boat . If so lets call it the super v class and run what you brung.

MANITIE 05-23-2007 06:16 PM

Sorry...I forgot Bills boat had #6's....

Again...why would anyone who's boat can run over 110 want to race with us...its like us dropping to P-3...

We are not stopping anyone from racing...but why make boats slow down 10+ mph to race slower boats...

There are a number of SV's out there running 108+...
the question is why are they not racing each other...

I have a way better chance of running up front in P-3 and I can make my boat run 92 top speed all day long...

KenD 05-23-2007 07:32 PM

Guys...

In post #172 I said the final draft for the format has been sent to SBI/APBA for review.

Perhaps its time to stop beating the drum...or dead horse.

Thanks for your comments, suggestions, and support.

I'll let you know when something new develops.

Ken

TeamTaboo 05-23-2007 08:00 PM

Team Taboo will not be running this class. We have Arnesons and the gear ratio is not right for this group. Hopefully by the end of the year we will be running unlimited and the Super Cat. Good luck with your group I think you are on the right track. Bill
