Battle of the Keys

In less than 30 days, the performance boating world will descend upon Key West for the World Championships. While there will be many teams racing for titles. No one race is more anticipated than Turbine Extreme, which will feature 3 boats. Team GEICO with a considerable amount of seat time could be the odds on favorite! But luck, could be on anyone's side. Regardless it will be quite the spectacle

There will be a fourth Turbine boat racing as well WARBIRD. (44 MTI )

Both the JBS and Aquamania boats are extremely fast and their crews know how to race. Pete, As you saw this weekend we (GEICO MTI) are severely impaired in heavy water by our boat length. Can't go fast if you can't keep it in the water. It's three days of racing all you can do is prepare to the best of your ability and race as hard as the equipment will let you without breaking it.

Good luck to all the teams

Marc

audacity 10-07-2008 10:30 AM

the excitement level is going to be off the charts for the unlimited class.

DriverofDonzi 10-07-2008 11:36 AM

I am starting to enjoy this smack talk now until the Worlds! :) :ernaehrung004:

Chris

audacity 10-07-2008 01:00 PM

your not going to hear any smack from me...here are the three reasons why:

1.Geico is hard to beat.
2.Geico is hard to beat.
3.Geico is hard to beat.

Aqua Banshee 10-07-2008 01:46 PM

Is warbird the bud select shootout turbine?

MANITIE 10-07-2008 02:27 PM

This should be a great race....the team with 2 years of seat time against some new guys.....Its always cool to be the underdog....

DriverofDonzi 10-07-2008 02:43 PM

No no...I didnt say that. I am very much eager to see who will become Turbine Class World Champion since it will be more than 1 boat race for World Title.....

Chris

audacity 10-07-2008 03:09 PM

I know...I was messing too.

The excitement builds each day for us. So much to do. So little time. And so much win or loose: equipment...reputations...lives...we know it. But, what separates this class from any other in history is...the fans know it! This is what is going to propel the unlimited offshore class to the next level in motorsports!

chewiekw 10-07-2008 03:51 PM

I thought Geico had a Mystic also? Why dont they race that boat? Which boat is lighter the 50ft Mystic or the 44ft MTI?

audacity 10-07-2008 03:57 PM

They 'were' setting up the mystic for speed records with t55's in it...I am in no way speaking for geico. Plans change all the time in racing. I guess we will all just have to see how it all unfolds in KW.

JBS 10-07-2008 04:17 PM

JBS in key west

the anticipation of this race is monumental. The teams are well prepared and ready to flex some muscle. The fans are eagerly awaiting this epic showdown.I cant wait-Ive got the best seat in the house.JBS

audacity 10-07-2008 04:37 PM

i got the best seat!:p...i wouldn't have anything to do with what jeff has going on over there. he's w/o a doubt got mad skills.

cauzmik 10-07-2008 05:31 PM

Gieco should set up the mystic and let's make it a mystic class...Budweiser should drop 2 turbines into their's and we would have the beginning of a freaking amazing class....I wonder who will be the next team to join the fray?...anyone saving up?

Sean H 10-07-2008 05:34 PM

I voted JBS for turbine, I mean, they have a telemetry van, how cool is that?

But I couldn't find the box marked Bud Light for overall Top Gun, you know, like last year? :drink::party-smiley-004:

gonna be fun to watch though... Bud, CRC, CMS, JBS, Aquamania, Geico, Warbird.... and Cintron? Bad Moon? hopefully its bumpy and we can see these big boats do their thing! Turbines and pistons, Mystics and MTI's... all mixed up.

JBS Crew 10-07-2008 05:55 PM

Key West is going to be awesome! Can't wait for the competition.

audacity 10-07-2008 07:20 PM

unlimited is unlimited....whatever you want!
engine or turbine...
you can have a JATO for all we care!
run 4 engines if you think you need it...

if a 4 engine boat won all the time it would have been another class...when GEICO wins,,,they were racing alone...when they don't win,,,they got beat.

this is just my personal .02

phragle 10-07-2008 07:54 PM

oh man, just had a disturbingly morbid visual, the new cat killer, 47 canopy light carbon layup with tripple T55's, surface drives wiping out at 210......

audacity 10-07-2008 08:35 PM

a cat would have to use 4 engines, not 3...and while dreaming; dream big...make it 70 feet long too.

No offense, but the best big boat racing took place in the original Super Cat class. There was as many as 17 great teams resulting in very competitive racing throughout the pack. You guys can relate to this having raced in Factory 2.I think moving forward, the sport needs to get back to one featured cat class and one featured vee class.Under the current class structure; the top boats and crews are spread out among too many classes.

audacity 10-07-2008 11:28 PM

none taken...

i do agree with some of your post.

this is what the turbine is doing...true unlimited! back in the day it didn't matter what you ran... 4 engine cats...3 engine V's...diesels, turbos, alcohol...whatever. it's hard to complain about rules when there are none.

ps...out of 17 super cats how many were really in it? how many winners were there for the season?...it's on one hand.

OK..I actually agree with some your post as well.I also think Superboat Unlimited should be unlimited...piston or turbine;creating two unlimited classes for just a few boats does not make sense.
I also think there should be one Superboat(Super Cat)class...the 850/750 thing needs to be resolved.

audacity 10-08-2008 10:19 AM

There you have it!...Now we totally agree.

You need to remember one thing about 750/850....850 boats are faster and powerful than 750......Therefore, how can 750/850 boats be resolved?

I believe he is referring to the Cash Killer Fountain Vee. You could run a triple layout in a 47 vee.

I too wish the "unlimited" class would come back and really be unlimited. No whining about piston vs turbine. Just bring huge HP in exotic packages. V-12s, quad engines, turbines, cats, vees.

audacity 10-08-2008 12:36 PM

No. Not naming names.

While I LOVE the sound of SC engines...Turbine is the future. The reliability can not be matched hp for hp. Finishing is everything. Just look at where unlimited hydro's. are. They had growing pains too.

PS...No one wants to build a state-of-the-art offshore boat to get beat when it's finished a year later.

Wahoo ATV 10-08-2008 01:00 PM

Personally, I find the turbines boring once you get by the awe factor of the technology. No noise. And since it is not my $$ I would much rather see different approaches to building the best race boat. Unlimited means Unlimited, let the biggest check book win!

JBS 10-08-2008 05:01 PM

Its the sound of domination. If its not that-its the sound of the water getting violently punnished.

i can not describe the sound water makes at that speed. i don't care if your f'n chuck yeager...200mph on water is freaking epic.

aren't you supposed to be driving right now JBS...U probably R!

cauzmik 10-08-2008 09:27 PM

Is anyone else planning on moving up a class or building a new boat for 09 season?...just wondering..anyone know of any new race teams coming?

audacity 10-08-2008 10:04 PM

They will. Spending all kinds of money over the years on engines and getting passed like your stopped by a turbine w/all kinds of hours on it...will get old for some.

Joey Dunlop, at the Isle of Man TT, once said "some think they want to go fast.....but, they really don't"...after 20 years of professional racing, i never felt i could use that quote. NOW I CAN...for those that think they do? bring it,,,we'll see ya in 2009.

There is more to it then that. The 750 class motor isn't really a 750 hp motor. It uses spec heads and has other specific rules. It may make as much as 800+ depending on who you talk to. It operates near 7800 compared to 5800. I understand the 750 wind up but the 850 accelerates harder. It will be interesting to see how they compare in Key West. If its rough they may be close to even. We will see.

MOBILEMERCMAN 10-08-2008 10:21 PM

I agree with you guys Unlimited is unlimited one class. Last year they had different starts. Maybe they will all start together this year and we can see which is the best boat.
