Last I heard a legal SBI motor can make as much as 650 HP. By the end of the winter with R&D and shop builders reputation on the line because they all have to build more power than the next shop. it will keep going up and up and up and then someone will say I didnt know we couldnt do that. And I never authorized my builder to do that.
Mark do you know of anyone that has been able to mount that unit on a bravo setup? How is this cheaper? Money will always win. The average SVL owner is a small business guy that barley can afford to race as it is. They do it for the passion and self gradification of pushing themselves and there machine where most wouldnt dare. Knowing you have no shot wont keep these type personality around for long. Look at the history of our sport and the utter colapase of great classes. 1 or 2 newer faster boats can DESTROY a hugh class in less than one year. Factory racing destroyed by change in motor's by merc.,SV fleet wiped out after allowing the #6 drive in,Super Cat motor issues 750 vs 850 and SOB with the newer wider tunnels. I DONT WANT TO SEE THIS HAPPEN TO SVL. Is there parity in SVL in SBI? Does anyone else think the OL destroyed the fleet? Its in the rules lets see what will be done.
My deam come true would be that no matter where we raced our SVL boat that the rules were all the same. That it was as affordable, safe, competitive and equal to all as it could be. That no matter how big you wallet was it didnt matter other than how new your boat was. That it was a class that bracket style guy's can get into and get under a lid and run wide open throttle. Its so close to being all that. Sorry for the rant.

Good point if you read my post earlier that is the exact reason we are toying with the idea of a new motor package, u can control the RPM's in the MSD with a chip or the restrictor plate.

Tried to stay out of this, but. The stock sealed 525 is the single most reliable package on the market.
We build tons of motors every year. We could easily say anything goes with the 525, and probably make a lot of money building hot 525's. What for. SPEC is SPEC. It is supposed to be about the setup and the team, not the engine builder. To go to a carburated package is rediculous. There has not been a carburator under the hood of a car or truck in over 30 years. Why keep boating in the stone age? They say, why use Mercury, to rebuild. they are not giving anything back. Number one, they are neutral. Number two, are you not going to use their drives, and gimbals, and tabs etc? Plus they did develope the 525. They also did support Offshore for many years in a very big way. Just not SBI. Or OPA. We are not crying about it. Frank this is not directed at you or Bubba. It is just what we see, and what we will do.
I want to thank the VL teams that supported OPA this season. And looking forward to another competitive season. Smitty

As Smitty said, I've "tried to stay out of this", however, I have been through an OPA inspection and I have been through an SBI inspection for the SVL class. I know the rules of both groups like the back of my hand.

Does the can of worms really need to be opened up?????

W/O going there, here's a copy of the very last rule of the OPA SVL rules on Page 33:
GPS: All Vee Lite Teams will be required to purchase and use a OPA Approved GPS unit . The GPS must be used at each race and turned into OPAs GPS HQ with in 1 hour of the end of the race . While this class does not have a speed restriction, the GPS unit will help OPA retain parity in the class.

After consultation with the head GPS official in Jupiter, only 1 SVL team ran one in St Clair(the team labeled as the SBI team) and that was it for the whole season.

Rules and specs are wonderful, if they're not ENFORCED, what use are they?

I've enjoyed being on both sides of the spectrum and plan to attend races on both sides(the flag that flies doesnt make any difference to me)

Same here Smitty I said earlier in a post no right and wrong just different direction for the futhure.

But the truth is all u see is carb motor under the hood of car today ( Race Cars) Nascar and dragsters are all carb for the same reason for parity.

Nope Nascar is all injection, as are any of your top fuel dragsters. How are you Frank, Hope the back is good.
Seriously look into the MSD Fuel management systems. Any of the top builders are familiar with them. At least
then you would have all the failsafe systems that the newer packages have.

Thanx, Chad

ps it looks like it had repairs to the port side (about where the numbers would be) at one time. Once again sorry about the thread jack
