If that photo is as it appears, taken parallel to the plane of the boats angle of attack there should be an horizon in the background, Unless that, that appears as a sunami wave in the background is real..I vote it is a phony.. 
Of course there is the option that the photo was taken by a surfer zooming down the Banzi Pipeline..

I recall seeing a racing movie from down-under with the Carr brothers just before they were killed in 1970. A couple of minutes of offshore racing, and suddenly, big cruise ship appears in the picture and then disappears! They got some fargin' waves down there!
ient eyes can see a difference in the graphics on the rear quarter side..
