I know with my boat that above 60mph there is vary little boat in the water. The chines are definitely out, and she is riding from the strakes down maybe less. In other words the whole boat rises up out of the water with speed. If we assume that Superbabi does not have a "bow lift" problem. Do you guys think that some were above 75mph Superbabi continues to rise up to a level that the prop no longer bites as well? Are Superbabi's slip numbers comparable to Keith's boat at 70mph? |
Re: Y2K set ups
PAT may have something there. ..OUR StepBottoms dont naturally rise like Pat's strait Vee. Using Babi's lifting rocker is a good example SuperBoat Guru Pat.
Deeper is better. Not only has JCAP said it all along...but Bash has said the same too. As JCAP stated also...The drag from the lower unit doesnt effect this hull design (24 & 30's) as much as the higher slip obtained from the higher propshaft centerline. It has been said a zillion times all ready...but guys keep insisting to raise it up...go higher ......easy done with an O/B...done it a million times with all diameter/pitch props...always go back to the lower/better height. Glad to hear from Professor Jim!!! & he even started a NEW THREAD!!! :) Jim ...this WED NITE is gonna be hectic. Bash has planned a GreatSouthBay G.P.S. run ...& looks like its gonna be a BIG turnout! Video will be posted. Watch Superbash Vids for video of ET5508 (JohnJr's ex-Y2K). Gene |
Re: Y2K set ups
So lets hear from et5508.... Hows the spacer and the 29p prop working out for you?
|
Re: Y2K set ups
From what I hear, the spacer didn't work. Lost speed. Go figure............

Re: Y2K set ups
Pat Just Curious What Is The Prop Shaft Lenght From Bottom On The 24 I/o ???
|
Re: Y2K set ups
Im not sure I understand that question. Is it how far back is the start of the prop from the transom? That will vary on notched transom boats. I know the notch on the 30 is 9 inches long. My 30 with the notch and the box the prop was back if I remember correctly was around 44-48 inches.

If you are asking how far below the bottom the prop shaft is on my boat, it is 5" below the V... My boat has a straight V that comes a point though. Dave M. has measured 6-1/2" from the pad to prop shaft on his 24'. His step/pad 24' is more like your hull. Neither of our 24s have the notch like ZZ is talking about. The notch should make for "cleaner" water to the prop. |
Re: Y2K set ups
Thanks Pat, Sorry My Queston Was Not Very Clear. I Was Just Trying To Compare To The Y2k........
|
Re: Y2K set ups
From what I gather, the 30'Y2K is setup with the prop about 2" higher than the 24' boats Dave and I have...
I am not sure how the boys will setup the new 24' at the rigging shop now??? |
Re: Y2K set ups
Ok Guys I have been away and havnt heard much , there is info in a bunch of different threads,
Bajababy? spacer or no ? 4 blade or 5 ? top speed? John Jrs? did you try the spacer? 5 blade? top speed ? and remember guys the Y2k isnt the fastest hull around but dam if it isnt one of the best rough waters boats in the 30 single class! my guess is 81 for the 525 and 83 for the 600,and when the warrenty is over the 600 becomes 700 very easily! Anyone see pics of John jrs boat in point pleasant a few years ago? amazing shots of that boat flying, and yes they won the race against some very good competition , several boats chose not to race that day, too rough and the race was called early because the support helicopters couldnt fly it was too dam nasty! |
