Re: New 24's???

If someone is to keep the boat on a trailer, then the smaller boat is simpler to move around. But if it sits on a lift all season and the trailer only comes out to put into winter storage, or just get rid of the trailer and have it hauled, then trailering shouldn't be much of an issue. But then it becomes more $$ seasonally.

So, if you are going to be trailering a boat all the time, the smaller boat, being easier, becomes cheaper annually.

Just for storage, I was spending approx $5000/yr. And this number would not change much if it was a 28-32ft boat.

I trailer my 24 and keep it in my yard. I don't think a 30 would be much harder to trailer. I have a 3/4 ton truck and plenty of room in my yard. The tow vehicle is a big expense. A mid sized truck or small SUV can tow the 24, for the 30 you need a real truck if you are towing regularly.

Mike is making a vary good point here...
The fellow that started this thread does not own a boat.
For him a 24' is a likely a better place to start, and for more reason than just pure $$.
The rest of us that are debating 24' vs 30' are a bit more experienced.
My opinion still remains that there is still a good market for the 24' Super and even better if the design was updated... :drink:

I towed my old '21 Chris Craft which weighed as much as my 24 Super with a Jeep Cherokee. It was OK locally but on the highway.....can you say WHITE KNUCKLE GRIP!

We towed our 28' Cigarette (9,000lbs) with a Jeep Cherokee a few times...
I think a Cherokee would be fine for a 24' Super. As for towing with my Wrangler; it can be interesting to say the least. I have to make sure I'm lined up straight when I launch because the boat will drag the Jeep down the ramp until she starts floating...
Over the road is OK if I stay under 55 and the trailer brakes are working.

Agreed. Until fourfootitis sets in. :D
For a 1st time boater, the 24super is a great place to start.
There are boats out there for varied selling prices.
I actually like the blue one in the classifieds now.
And for northerners, it will have a greater following than the panteras. But Jo and Pepe are coming out w/ some cool updated designs... it may take a bit of time to come to fruition though.

When I was a Pantera owner, Jo and I corresponded a lot.
Jo told me that steps in a 24' boat would not help with speed and the fact Superboat had them was just a marketing ploy.
He reasoned that a 24' boat running fast would lift past the step negating its effect.
I questioned JC, when I was inquiring about a new 24'. JC did not deny that the step may come right out when the 24' is trimmed out.
Jo also told me he would not even consider steps in his 28' for the same reason.
Hmmmmm So now why is JO putting steps in the 28 now???

They've only done a few 36s.
Anyone want to comment on the 24, stepped vs straight V?
Speed vs Handling?

Yup.
The 1998 and newer hull is 1-2mph faster than my 1997.
Probably not because it has a step though...
It has bigger lifting strakes and a semi pad bottom.
Handling difference? I don't know, never drove the stepped hull version...
Now Storm, are you going to ask me if my 24' Super is faster than my 24' Pantera was? Or how about my 24' Super vs. your old 24' Pantera? :p

Naaaaaaa...
I've heard it already... :drink:
I also remember you telling me your old pantera spankin a 27(or 29)fountain on the way back from block island... in the rough.

Yup that is true. My 24' Super spanked the same 29' Fountain this year... :D
I do have to admit to getting my azz kicked by a Pantera this year though... :drink:
T-Mone has one hell of a 24' Pantera with an awesome 585HP engine. :evilb:

I would not be able to trailer a 30 in my last house the streets where to small to make the turns at times. So Pat tell us the truth Did you enjoy getting spanked .

Re: New 24's???

I recently purchased a used 1995 Superboat, 454mag/Bravo1. The boat is beautiful, especially for the price. This is my first "Go Fast" and fits my needs perfectly. My next boat will probably be a used 30Y2K. I cannot afford the price of a new boat, so I figure with how many Y2K's are selling now, in about 6 years, I will be able to pick one up at a price I can afford. The big question is, how many 21' and 24' are selling now? My guess would be very few.

The deck is almost rigged, but the hull is still in the mold. We need to free up some space in the shop beforre we pull it. First of all, we need to get rid of the Yellow Y2K to make some room.
As for my 24'. Well. it's going on the back burner till winter time. Theres no way I'll have it done by mid summer at this rate, soo Saturday I took the money for the 24' and went and bought a motor for my Mako. A 250 Yamaha. At least when I build the 24', I'll have a nice motor.

These boats have a vary nice functional layout design. The integral helm and cabin entrance are 2 of the 4 reasons I sold my 24' Pantera and bought a 24' Superboat

FX10,

Is the little footwell (in pic 3) available through Superboat or an aftermarket company? I might like to add it to my older boat for some more foot room.

Thanks,
John
