YEAH BABY!!!! THATS WHAT I'M TALKIN BOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Konrad will not warranty the drive over 800 foot pounds but talking with them they have used the 540 drive behind commercial diesels pushing 1000+ ft pds on boats that weigh 3x as much so they were optimistic that the application would work with a boat that doesn't weigh Jack and real world torque of closer to 900 then 1000.

The life of the motor is all based on how big of an idiot you are when you drive and how well you perform the maintenance. The motor that they just torn down this afternoon was an 850hp BBC with like 6seasons on it and looking at the oil I would say it was original. LOL That motor would make close to 1000 with aluminum heads and a different intake/cam combo. It was in a 25' eliminator daytona that gets blasted up and down the Parker Strip all summer.

Hypothetical Question:

If I need to get the boat rigged with a 496 would It be better to get the regular version or the HO... Pricewise they are close and since we will probably steal most of the accesories off of it I was thinking if there was anything better on the HO making it worth the extra Cash?

Not really just going to strip of the accesories and were playing with the idea of using the ECM and Ignition. Basically it will be a Long Block sitting. It could also be a back up motor if something goes south on the racer. Its still an idea... I don't know if a 12k dollar donor motor is worth it. Damn it I just want everything now!!!! NOW!!!!!! NOW!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my thought would be to go with the HO and dial in at superboat. Even though you have the Konrad we will see your speed trials with a motor we all know ( speeds #'s ) !!!!!! By the way ..................CONGRATS on the 1st of the next GENERATION of Y2K's...............

Rob,
The new GM 496 engines are vary different than the old 454 & 502 generation of engines. The brackets and accessories mount differently. The ignition ECM and wiring is tailored to the new igniter for every cylinder system and there is no distributor. You can not reprogram the ECM, it is not a GM MEFI series.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it would only make sense to rig the boat with a Merc engine and drive package if you are going to retain the Merc drive and sell off the engine complete. This is what Faster did...
