Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Here goes....

I finally got the cost est. of the 2 small blocks today and the cost of the drives... also I get a call about a blown big block for way less then what it should cost. After about 30 min. of cheering and crying I have decided to nix the twin plan and go with one big ass motor. The urge to be different was blinding me to the fact that the costs were getting too high for my tastes. So I'm coming back to reality and a more normal approach. I know you all are disapointed in me but in my defense it is one hell of a deal!!! This Y2K will still be the fastest to date if all goes as planned.

So in closing: Anyone have a SSM 3a lying around they need to get rid of?

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Thanks Lightspeed.. I appreciate it

Blown Big Block so its going to be fast... Not sure how fast yet but enough power to need something more stout then a standard XR drive.

Anyone run a SSM drive and which one? I know they are rated @ 750hp but Most of the 3a I have seen were behind 1000hp + motors already? Other viable choices being Imco, or Max Machine. I got 6 weeks to figure this out LOL

Check the other thread Rob...
The Zuperboat has a Speedy; get in touch with Mike.
A drive that uses Bravo style props would be the way to go.
You will need a drive with a tranny to handle 1000HP.

Rob Buy The Time You Build A Good Motor And I Mean A Good Motor Put All The Marinizing Parts And Headers Then A Good Gimbel Drive And Trans Its Gotta Be 50 To 55 K Talk To Coenhead And Get The New 700 Package With The New Drive Plus You Get That Warranty Card Any Engine Builder You Use Is Not Goin To Give You A Year Warranty They Will Give You Some Kind Of BS Excuse To Not Warranty The Motor. And I Dont Think It Would Be Too Much More For The Twin Set Up 7500 Each XR 3500Each Gimbel And 15000 For Each Small Block ////I Would Think Real Hard About This I Talked To My Freind About The #3a He Sold It

Rob,
Your deck was completed today !!! As you can see in the picture JC even helped roll it out !!! Thats a first. lol
Anyway, your hull is going to be sprayed tomorrow!!! it's going to go quick now. Everything is made already.
We also have to get your deck out, so we can make a section of the deck where the new F16 canopies are going to go. We're going to send the section to Shieldds and let them do the fitting.

HuntingtonBeach 02-15-2006 11:18 PM

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Sweet the canopy's should come out *****in'

Lightspeed- the SB were going to cost closer to 20k each and the outdrives were like 15k each w/ gimbal so I was at 70k before hull and rigging. The guess was 120k+ total... more then I can spend and still keep my balls attached ;) I got a good deal on my BB and the drive thing is still up in the air but even if its 20k I'll still be ahead of the game.

Wow can't belive JC even came down, he must of made a wrong turn or ran out of gas LOL

I heard that 700sc and the Ace drive package will cost about 70k real world?

Hey Rob,

I don't think you can get the ITS without buying it with a Merc engine. The Bravo XR is not going to last more that 20hours with 1000HP anyhow...

It would seem the #3a and #5 have been replaced with the new Ace, but there may be a couple left over...

That new Ace looks like the right Merc drive for your application, but unfortunately you need to buy the Merc 700... :(

It looks like your going to be buying other than a new Merc unless you go #6.
Konrad, Imco, ADS???

Are they built in CA.?
I think that would be a good choice so that you can run Bravo props.
Just ask Zuperboat about those Speedmaster props...

Just got back from Cabo yesterday so nothing new right now. Risk is working away on the layup I assume and Coen is looking into drive options as well am I.

If anyone knows of a #5 or #6 drive for sale shoot me a pm... I'll offer a finders fee or something.

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Coen said the Konrad was around 20k with dual external steering and a tranny. After I talked with him today......................................... He wants me to get him the info on the Sage #8. In my opinion, the best drive for the Y2K, and it sells for 25K. jc can probably get it alot cheeper OEM. He was unaware that it could raise up and down.

Superbabi 02-26-2006 06:58 AM

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Rick , I checked out that drive, it looks real nice, up/down 4" and trim in/out. Perhaps the wayto go.

HuntingtonBeach 02-26-2006 01:23 PM

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Was that 20k OEM? I hope not, then Konrad would be trying to compete with merc in price also!!!!

They were the old style 6's w/o dry sumped and the engines needed work too... Is was going to cost too much to ship and rebuild/modify but itwas worth the call. Thanks for finding it, I'll buy ya a beer next time I'm in town. ;)

The tranny is built into the transom assembely. That is why it sticks out a bit. www.imcomarine.com
