I sold my 24 right before Christmas, I had a 454 with a TRS, I used 4 and 5 blade props. No K-Planes, She started to Chime at 69MPH. ( I picked up my 30' Superboat, with the single o/b looking for power this winter) I asked Mercury at the NYC boat show if they are comming out with the 400 o/b they said No! and have no plans for a 400.

I was in Bash's 24 at almost 80 this summer, straight as an arrow. It has a 300 merc with I believe a 18" setback. I have been playing in 24's for almost 30 years. I found if you OVER trim them, they will chine walk. When I say over trim. I mean, trimmed so high that your losing speed.

We were still accelerating when the chine walk would kick in. If the prop couldn't carry the bow, it would "bowsteer" (I don't know if that is a correct word), and start to chine.

With the drive down we'd get to 60 mph or so, then start trimming up and picking up speed to about 69mph (74 on speedo) and then get Scary chine walk that won't steer through.
The motor is wedged down for some reason so there isn't much available trim to work with, 3 on the indicator is about neutral and the chine starts around 4.5-5 on the scale.

If I don't get a jack soon, I'll have my chopper worked down to a 23 and see if the RPMs come back up.
