Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
Well I've read everything there is on the internet about the wonderous Y2K and I'm 85% sure I'm going to order one later this summer. I'm currently on deployment with the Navy so everything is via internet right now. I'll have to have my dad order it for me, but I want to get some more info from the board.
I had my dad call John at superboat yesterday and I can get an '07 built with k-planes and 496HO for $68k. I also want external steering to handle eventual HP upgrades and the poker run cowling is $1200. What other options should I consider? I think I can save some money up front and have a local shop do the cabin cushions. I definitely want dual batteries with an isolator charging system, Garmin GPS, autometer gauges, and speaker wires run. I want the new JL audio marine speakers- I don't know if I should should ship them to superboat for the install or do it myself- I'd hate to cut 7" holes in a new boat and mess it up. How about manual indicators for the k-planes and drive? How about cabin ventilation? I'm worried about getting enough air flow in there for sleeping off a day of drinking. The cabin will be my anti-DUI suite so I can party all day, sleep on the boat and head home in the morning. I don't see any hatches in the pictures... Don't need A/C like one of the guys on the board- but some type of screened vent and a couple 12v fans would be nice. Where's the beer cooler go? What other options do I need to ask for in my quote? Did ya'll get a trailer from superboat too when you ordered your boat? Looking for any advice I can get. Oh, and any new pictures ya'll have of your Y2K's so I can drool on this laptop some more. Shoot me a PM if you want my email to talk more indepth about these boats. -Hopefully soon to be a Superboat owner, Greg |
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
John Is Still Making Boats. I Havent Heard Of Any Being Completed In Some Time. Maybe Lightspeed Needs To Get Back In The Game And Pump Out Some Boats.im Sure J.d. Doesnt Work Cheap But Hes Worth The Money.

Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
I think FX10 said they have a Y2K in the mold that is not spoken for as of yet so you may be able to get one sooner than 2007.
I'd make sure you get a depth finder rigged from Superboat because the bottom is cored. Oh-Zone put a hatch in the bulkhead by the passengers seat. Ask him how that has worked out; cutting the deck would wreck the lines. |
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
If you are already thinking of HP upgrades, maybe go w/ the Konrad ACE system. Has the external steering built in and can take much more HP than a bravoXR. Comes w/ extension box.
Just my $0.02. Konrad ACE |
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
That Konrad system looks like a great unit. Do you think parts replacement will be an issue?

The Bravo X drive that comes with the 496 HO is good for over 500HP and you can always upgrade to an XR if you build a 600-650HP engine. IMO the extra $$ for a Konrad is not necessary unless you're planning for 700+HP. |
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
Pat, how much $ is an ACE Package?
How much for a Bravo, and for External steering? Or an XR w/ its? all i can think of is everyone here scared of bravos w/ big HP. And it seems all the Y2K guys are looking at 800+ hp. I just thought if it was a bit more for an ACE than BravoX + ext steering, it would be a good more for future HP. Just trying to figure out the $ differences. |
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
Oh and BTW, how will an extension box effect the way a Y2K runs?
|
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
Soon the Merc NXT-1 will be an option to buy without the 700 Merc HP. This drive will handle 900 HP. Also the Y2K is a lite boat, the merc will be fine.

I went on FROOGLE and purchased my stereo equipment and GPS and shipped to JC. Worked out great and saved $$$ too. Just tell JC where to put it. I put a small porthole type window under the pass side cabin/cockpit bulkhead. Came out great. Good for natural light when the cabin door/steps are closed for privacy. I have slept below with the door open, porthole open and even the drop-down access panel open behind the helm for ventilation and it still can get stuffy/stagnent down there on a hot muggy night. a fan of some sort would help. An amazing amount of room below...

Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
As Oh Zone said,I would definately have the port hole vent put in the bulkhead. Also I can add wires for future fans, like I did on Coens Y2K. Also Oh Zone has the forward storage compartments, which are very nice.
If you have Coen mount the battery switch in the engine compartment, the storage compartment under the rear seat can be used for a HUGE cooler. Rick |
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
FX10, thanks for the inputs- I'm compiling a list of "how I wants" which is basically what most people have done before. I do need enough storage for the required pile of life jackets, folding anchor, lines, safety stuff, sun-umbrella, etc.
I don't know if the boat comes with tab/drive indicators- I'd want those. With a flush mount Garmin GPS, I wouldn't need a speedo though- just tach, eng instruments, fuel, and depth. Should be enough room in the dash for that. Could also go with a GPS sounder and get depth from that- one less instrument to rig. I'm really looking forward to planning this out. Although it a little difficult while halfway across the world- I'm in Jordan right now! Nice interior shots Oh-zone- I followed the thread with your entire build. I'm thinking about doing either the same type color scheme as you but in Navy blue, or all white, black canopies and blue waterline and center racing stripe. Too many decisions. Luckily I have a few months to figure this all out before I can place an order. Keep the ideas/photos/etc flowing. |

VS the Merc stuff: A Bravo XR and HP gimble is about 11K + 3K for twin external stearing rams. The ITS XR package is around 16K. So the Konrad is some 10K more that a Merc XR setup. BUT it will handle at least 200HP more... |

The forward locker on the nose is plenty large for jackets. noodles and stuff.. THe storage beneath the v-pad is plenty large for anchor, lines and such. I opted for the 2 watertight approx 6x10 hatches on either side of the anchor locker for flares and hidden storage whhich could also store lines.

Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
That is a big number pat.
The regular 540 is about $12k(+tranny) from what i've read on the board. Is 3000 all JC charges for full hydraulic w/ dual rams? I thought it was more like 4-5000, but no difference. |

I was only comparing the $$ for parts. Steering rams with hardware are about $1500 each. You would need to buy the helm separate for a Konrad ACE too. OH-Zone your boat is well thought out! Nice Job... :drink: |
Re: Seriously considering ordering a Y2K
Have coen install the Merc. Smart Craft 5000 guage, it's the ONLY guage you will need, every thing is in there including trim/drive location. The system has over 100 functions.

I have to pack it in on Friday eve cause my sons birthday party on the 22nd but we should still hook up. I past TMone on candlewood lake yesterday...He caught the lake patrols attention doing 55 MPH... but got off with a warning. After the ordeal he said he'd be going to Claudios as well...
