Didn't make it to St. Clair
 
After working on my boat night and day for a week, I threw in the towel at midnight last Wednesday with a oil leak and a vibration in my new motor. the vibration turned out to be the harmonic balance (wrong?) I've ordered a new fluid balancer today. Should have the oil leak fixed by Friday.

Any advise, the balancer looks like its externally balanced while the motor was internally balanced, the motor ran for maybe 1 hour idling, and 45 minutes on the river at 4000rpm or less, do you think any damage was done to the motor.

I asked this question at the motor shop this morning and heres the response I got:

If there isn't anything noticable happening with the new balancer then it could be ok but, if this is a race motor and there is any concern ( i.e. the money to check it out is available) then the bearing clearances on the crank need to be checked and the crank should be magnafluxed as well as any other parts that look suspect.

Question: Is this an internally balanced motor with an external balancer on it? Didn't think you could do both but I could just be miss reading the post?

Internal balanced motor, somehow an external balanced balancer was put on it, had vibration 1200 to 2500 rpm's, removed balancer vibration gone, ordered new internal balancer today, builder said should be fine, Jim Arvis had a balancer come apart during a race, said he never had a problem after replacing the balancer. hope this makes more since.

Yep that makes sense, balancers fighting against each other is never a good thing. Good Luck next race Eddie, would love to see your set up some time if we are ever in the same part of the country.

Pull the oil filter and cut it open.You might of pounded the main bearings out of it. :(

I have desk top dyno...
To run the program I need the head flow numbers, induction, cam specs, and compression ratio.

While tracing oil leak and deciding to replace gasket found lifter parts in oil pan, what would cause a lifter to break. These mechanical lifters do not have a continuous cylinder shape, instead they have a tab or 25% (black section) of the cylinder with a crossbar connection the two lifters together, they broke at the base of the black section, engine was still running fine. Any help would be appreciated

Is it a roller block? Or conversion lifter/cam? Older non roller blocks have shorter lifter bore hight I'm sure.
