Oh Yes, there are many No Wake Zones (6mph)...
Officially there is a 45mph speed limit, but I've yet to hear of anyone being ticketed for exceeding that... :D

Absolutely! :D

There are two nice State ramps on the west side for all to use. There are one or two on the east side as well. They are all free too...

Under the I-95 bridge in OldSaybrook or, at Haddam Meadows in Haddam would be the closest to NY.

A few of the pictures I posted are in Haddam at Haddam Island. Haddam Meadows is the start of the CT River Run in October... :drink:

Pat,
When is the run in October again? I am thinking about maybe dragging the boat down from up north to use for a weekend down here in CT.

My boat is a 1997 24' Superboat with a 502MagMPI Bravo.
My Jeep is a stock 1999 Wrangler with a 4.0L 6 cyl.
The Jeep pulls the boat fine sow long as the trailer brakes are working and I don't go much over 50mph...

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

Hey Guys,
Special thanks to OH-Zone and T-Mone for making the treak down from up north to run with me on the CT River last night...
Prop testing was the first order of business so after launching in Chester, we blasted down to Essex.

My boat hit 74mph with 2 guys full fuel and a full cooler spinning my labbed 28p B1. T-Mone hit 80mph with about the same load spinning his labbed 27p Mirage +. I don't recall OH-Zones exact numbers but he ran about the same as me bouncing off the rev limiter.
We pulled up on a beach to crack a beer and BS some... :drink:

OH-Zone decided to stick with his newly labbed 5 blade but T-Mone and I switched props for a little test.
When I first hit the throttle the 3 blade totally blew out. Then I tried again and she just revved to the moon. I trimmed up to make sure I had not screwed something up when I mounted the prop. T-Mone cruised over a told me you can't hammer the throttle like with a 4 blade... :p
Anyway, I figured it out and got planed off...
The 3 blade Mirage + was definitely faster on top; up about 1.5mph vs the B1, but the cruise suffered down about 5mph at 4000rpm. I'll say the boat was a lot more loose and did not take nearly as much trim to carry the bow with the 3 blade, but overall I like the 4 blade better...
T-Mone said the my 28p B1 lugged his high revving engine some but he still hit 78mph. Next time we run, I'll offer him my 26p B1.

After cruising north we hug on another little sandbar by the old CT Yankee plant and enjoined the serenity. As the sun set we putted over to the Blue Oar for a little chow; boy the deserts were awesome... :D

Then we made are way back south to Chester using spot lights to find the markers in the dark. It was pretty much black by 8pm as the first day of Fall concluded... :(

Remember, the CT River Run, October 21st, high speed foliage cruise... :D

Happy Boating!

Hay Pat! Great getting together with you and TMone!
Greg...Thanks for dinner and being there for me with the lines, bumpers and cold ones!!! Your fountain looked SWEET! I really dig your neck-of-the-woods over there! The casual Island-type atmosphere at the Blue Oar was just the ticket and the food was excellent. Summer is soooo short :(

Pat. great to hear you guys had a great run together !!!! OZ what speeds did you get with the 5 blade ?? I actually hit 84 mph with my 4 blade 29 labbed B1, lite on gas just me no tabs. right before the rev. limter.

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

Well to keep things short. The latest tweek on the P5x slowed me down quite a bit and was all over the rev-limiter in acceleration and top end. Running 74. NOT HAPPY!!! So today I ordered a 1" spacer which will put me at 3 3/4" below the bottom and 7 1/2" back with the ITS. Way too much slip... Throttle up tried last time to take out some cup but no bow lift :( Im getting frustrated......

Superbabi 09-25-2006 03:41 PM

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

OZ, I thought you were running 79-80 mph ????

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

I was 78 at the limiter tried to dial the rpms down lost speed so I tried to go back to where I was and lost again. F__ked up...I did have 75 gal.s of fuel though

I got my best speed on the B1, 29"

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

Keep the prop info coming! I am running a 25P Mirage Plus 3 blade. I don't think I'm getting the rpm's I should be, and I have just about zero bow lift at top end. I can leave the tabs full up and the nose stays flat and almost looks pitched down a hair to me.

With the 454 mag mpi and the headers I am seeing about 4700 rpm at WFO with the 25P. I have talked with Hydromotive about re-pitching it to a 24 and doing what they call a recreational lab. I guess they do some lab work on it, but don't thin it out so much that it has any weak points.

Thoughts? Does this sound like a good idea, or am I pi**ing in the wind here?

By the way, I don't have GPS, but at WFO around 4700 rpm, my speedo reads 74 - 75. Who knows, maybe 69-70?

#1-Get a handheld GPS. You wont regret it...

jayhawk261 09-25-2006 05:40 PM

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

I have been siting on the fence on that for some time now. I've been too cheap thus far to buy one, but I may break down and do it. Even the Hydromotive people wanted the gps speed!

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

Jayhawk,
You have Sean Dutra's old 24' step bottom with a 454MagMPI, right?
Believe me a Bravo 1 prop is far better all around.
Dave M. has the same boat and when he had a 454MagMPI, he ran a 26p B1.
Have you checked that engine out thoroughly? It sounds like she down on power a bit. You should be able to spin a 25p Mirage 5000rpm and a 26p B1 4900.
Do a compression and leak down test. It may be time to freshen the engine. Check the fuel pressure and I would recommend sending your ECU to Mark at Presion EFI or to Tyler Crockett for re-cal. CMI Headers will hurt performance on an EFI engine if it is not calibrated properly...

I suppose it's possible there is some wear on the engine. It simply seems to start and run well though. It has no hiccups, no smoking, no strange noises, no oil blowing into the bilge or anything. I know this in itself does not mean that it isn't ready for freshen-up, but I've worked on engines long enought to recognize some signs that point one problem or another. I may go ahead and run a compression check.

As far as hving the mpi re-flashed, would an exhaust change make enough of a difference in A/F ratio to require it? I know on my Mustang that going from stock to aftermarket exhaust made very little difference in the A/F ratio.

I did go pick up a Garmin ETrex Legend GPS tonight. At least I'll be able to record my speed this weekend and get a real idea of where I stand.

It is debatable...
Most say NO with an upgrade to a performance manifold like Gil or Stainless Marine. YES, if true headers like CMI or Lightning are added.
I would check the fuel pressure and adjust to the high side as a minimum.

jayhawk261 09-25-2006 10:10 PM

Re: Week Nights on the CT River

Is the regulator adjustable on this engine?

I have been considering sending a tailpipe back to CMI to have an O2 bung put in it. That way I can at least monitor the A/F, and I'll know if it is off. IS there software available to tap into the stock EFI computer to change parameters?
