24' Tow Rig
#1
What are you guys towing your 24's with? Anyone not using a full-size truck??? I've got a Sport Trac (Explorer) that will need to work at least for now, if I buy the boat I'm looking at.
What's the weight fully rigged with the trailer. I'm guessing it's no more than 5000 lbs.
Thanks!

Using a 2004 Ford Ranger. Granted I got it equipped with 4.10 gear full tow package 4wd etc 4.0L etc. Breaks are the downfall on this package....but the boat does tow great. Towed from Ohio to pick up the boat all the way to to the 1000 islands up on the NY/Candian border. Thought it towed a lot better than my old Pachanga 22 because of how narrow the 24 was. Make sure you have 4wd or you will be sorry....I need it on most of the ramps near me. I think Pat is towing with a Wrangler?

I am at about 4400-4600 with the boat and trailer. Factor in a full tank of gas, cooler etc I am up just under 5000. No way I would tow more than 5000lbs with my truck though eventhough I think Ford says it can handle up to 5600!

That's good to know. I believe most of the drivetrain is the same or similar. I know the trans is the same or at least was in previous years. I also have the 4.10 rear with limited and the tow package. No 4wd, but with the limited slip rear, I've only needed 4wd once in 5 years on a ramp. Only thing that concerns me now is the tranny because my trucks got some mileage on it (98,000). It's going to the shop next week so we can pull the pan and check it out. (It's due for a tranny flush anyhow.)

Hell. I've been towing Superboats for years withn my Trooper. Granted it's a LT package , but I have no problem towing a Y2K. I have 230 HP with a V6. Hell the New Durango with a 318 V8 only has 235HP.

I've got a 20' Allison, that weighs no more that 2500lbs total w/ the trailer. The truck tows the hell out of that, but it's also 1/2 the weight.
The only time I had an issue with it, was at a ramp that the trailer went off the end of the ramp because the tide was super low.
Thanks for the pic, nice looking rig.
