The engine looks great!

I have not tried a lefty prop on my 24' to date. With just me in the boat and extra weight from the helm and battery on the starboard side, my boat runs nice and level. With a passenger riding on the port side, she does roll and I do have to drop the tab some. I guess the more power, the more roll you would get.

My Y2K runs level ( without port roll ) however with such a long narrow boat like the Y2K she very susceptible to wind conditions, with that I could need either left or right tab for level correction.

Hey superbabi have you ever tried running a left hand prop just for the hell of it,sometimes speed and performance can be found during random test,sometimes not.Just install prop shift into reverse and take her for a ride,who knows.Also i have found that something that works on one boat does not mean it is going to work the same as it going to work the next boat( same hull and set up)Ask Bobby moore or Art Lilly

MDG, during the Merc. 600sci install in my Y2K Merc Racing was at Superboat to watch the install .( motor, smartcraft ) Merc. sends a box full of stuff, props, drives, spacers, etc.....we must have tried 15 or so props ( 4 AND 5 Blades ) and there was one or two left hand props that we tried. If I remember there was no better performance with the left hand prop. But that was then, perhaps I will give one a spin in the future !!!!!

Can you explain how the left hand prop set up works. What do you have to change in the lower unit to make a leftie work?

A Bravo Can Swing Either Way

Nothing in the Bravo drive has to change; it is simply run in the reverse direction.
Just a linkage swap for the shifting cable and lever is needed.
To test with a lefty prop, you could just run the boat forward by shifting into reverse. Just be careful when docking.
There is another consideration when running a Bravo drive left hand though. There is more load put on the top cap of the drive and some say the drive can not handle as much power and may fail sooner.

Pat, unlike the older XR's, the new XR's have forged upper and lowers. It makes no difference which way it runs. The older XR's only lasted like 15 hours in lefty.

Well Rick, I guess that would depend how much power you throw at it. I have a friend with a 1997 29' Fountain powered by a 525sc Bravo running lefty for over 600hours with no problems to date.

Yes, the newer drives do have a much better top cap.

Teague makes a nice billet top cap(have 2 new ones if anyone needs one) thats a nice upgrade for older bravo great for left hand rotation.My brother owns a 24BRT (same bottom 24 superboat non step,24pantera) powered by
MDG540-600 imco bravo,boat requires a lot of tab to stay level,in spring going to try left prop and see what happens.I owned a couple of 20 cigarrette all turned left hand,but boats had driver on port side.
