24 Superboat O/B Tabs or no Tabs??????
i am looking at a used 24 O/B and i know superbash took his tabs off and i see alot of them with tabs and alot without... are they needed....i will do bay running and ocean.....opinions please??? |
I had a 96/ 24 I/O and I used tabs on Lake Erie.
|
George,
I have a 24' that I use as my car in the Bahamas and it currently doesn't have tabs. It needs them! Narrow hull, cross wind = lean... lean to much and you're slappin a flat bottom! |
I had a 24 with twins, it absolutely needed tabs
|
Tabs! The bigger the better! I have 280 K-planes on my 24 I/O. I wouldn't want to be without them.
|
The Avanti needs the tabs going across the lake with a crosswind.
|
ok.....so the concensus seems to be tabs.....
if i buy the boat without them i well install em..... happy easter everyone........ |
Superbash took them off his boat because he thinks they scrub speed. Maybe they do on his boat with the 18' setback. I'd say 280s or the equivalent are the way to go. I use them all the time in the rough.

i know gene well and he doesnt go anywhere with his boat...he just runs around the bay....i like to go places..i am definetly going to put tabs on the boat if i buy thye one without...we will see...
|
I believe Gene took his 18" setback off... in some of his later photos of his boat I don't recall seeing any setback.. On my 24 I had the 280's and loved them. My observations were no scrubbed speed when all the way up. They were a big + in crosswinds or with passangers.
