He was buying a local built late 80,s 29 with twin 300,s for 40k! Needed and interior and had faded red gelcoat. He thought the gelcoat could be brought back easily HA HA and the interior would cost about 1500 LOL. I never saw the boat but did own a red boat and the only way to bring it back was to paint it. Big bucks. The point is someone he trusted said it was a good deal so he was buying the boat. So you never know!! Someone could look on line tommorow see 2 black 30,s and say one,s 129k and the other is 90k for the same boat and sold. Not really the same but you never know. Anyway good luck with the sale.

Well...I just re-read the post and lightspeed is claiming to have a 700sci/NXT for half the price. Not trying to get into a pizzing contest here, but let's compare apples to apples...
Cary is taking alot of heat for his price, but the boat is like new and shows it. Well taken care of and many add-ons and dialed in. This hobby of ours gets expensive, as I'm sure we all know, but the thought here is what will it cost to build the same boat with the options? Buy it with all of the add-ons and how long will it take to get it? What problems will arise after you have purchased a new boat? How much for a trailer? Salt water boat (used)? These are ALL things you have to consider. Just my opinion...Not trying to stir things up. He will talk price when someone's interested I'm sure, but he won't give it away. Dave |

compare apples to apples
1) 2007 30 ft single powerboat with 800hp that gives you 1 yr warranty on driveline under 130k. 2) Of course you can buy a used boat for less then that; how many used 800hp engines come with a 1 yr warranty from date of purchase? i was just replying to the post that the boat was overpriced and if you do the math it is not. |
axa, boats worth what someone is willing to pay.
i hope he gets his price. |

There are 2 questions being asked here. 1.where else can you get a 30 single with 800hp and a one yr powertrain warranty for less than 130k? 2. What would 30 y2k with a 700sci and an NXT1 drive cost? Answer: "My boat" is not an appropriate answer to question 2. The answer to question 2 would have to be a number in a dollar format. Answer: "My boat" is suitable to question 1. Can we move on now peeps.:greenchainsaw: |
btw, i'd take that JC over a merc 700. Just worth seeing Jeff hanging outta that hatch. Lightspeed, does a reach around come w/ purchase? ;)
|
Anyone wanna be the 1st to step up and try rigging a y2k w/ an NXT?
NXT has not been the easiest setup on all boats. |

You know if everybody needs to have a warrenty so bad im sure some boats could be sold with out power. Lets see some one go buy a new 700 package and ill sell them my boat without the power!! The money you save not buying merc you can pay to get it fixed a few times if needed. I bet a new 700 package would be more than my entire boat. MRD gave me a year parts and labor on my motor.
Lightspeed your good with numbers how much would your boat be with a 700 from merc in it. I bet over 100K!! Would it sell faster over 100 and having a merc motor? |
A 700 + NXT? Gotta be like 60-70k. Can you buy them separtely yet?
IMO, one of the best assests superboat has is value. Throw a 700+NXT in there, and it's not a great value. Would have to be like $150+ easy. Now the y2k w/a 496ho and xr... not many out there can touch it performance or dollar wise.(apples to apples). |
I think $60-$70k for a 700 w/NXT is a little light. I don't think they will seperate them either. $88,170 is UPCHARGE from a 496 Mag HO. Retail of course...I took the price of a 382 Fastech w/496 Mag HO vs. the 700sci w/NXT, subtracted the difference and divided by 2 to get the $88,170. Just the upcharge is a ton. How much off the shelf? $130,000???

Lots of Merc. Bashing going on ???? It seems to me any boat without a merc is NOT GONNA SELL.

http://mercruiserparts.com/mercruise...erformance.asp I don't see the 700sci NTX priced on BAM's web page but I would guess somewhere in the 90K range. IMHO the only Merc racing package that is not priced totally out of line is the 525EFI Bravo XR. List price for the 425HP/496HO Bravo X is around 30K and the 525EFI Bravo XR is around 46K. Now we know that JC does not charge full list with a Superboat build so IMO the 525EFI is a reasonable upgrade. For a Merc Racing package more than the 525EFI, you had better have deep pockets... Now we have gotten a little off topic. So we are comparing: 2004 30' Super with a Whipple 496HO Bravo XR for 90K. 2007 30' Super with a MGD 800 and Konrad for 129K. 2007 30' Super with Merc 525EFI Bravo XR for 90K. 2006 27'/29' Krip with JC 800 and Imco for ?? 75K. Now at this stage of my life, I'm not in the position to buy any of these boats, but that hasn't stopped me from speaking up. From these, I'd choose the 2007 30' Super with the Merc Racing 525EFI Bravo XR. |

Anyone looking for a used Y2K at a resonable price will have to check with JC for an actual price of a New Y2K - Just got mine nicely rigged with the 525merc and paid well over a hundred...Materials and rigging is extremly expensive these days and other manufacturers are not as resonably priced as he is... Opening offer of $90K is high but chances are the serious buyer with cash on hand will not pay that...

Pat, per this post i think a 525 boat nicely rigged will be over 100. How much over i don't know.
It is my understanding that H2O will sell his boat for 90K though. He has offered it up for sale in another thread. |
did not know that...sorry.

out of all the above mentioned this one seems like the deal. i never buy new boats. buy them 1,2,3 years old and let the original buyer take the hit...if a new 07-08 superboat with a 525 and an xr is $90+ ?...as soon as its registered ya lost $20k plus so why not save the $20k ...just my opinion

Does the 525/XR come with a 5 year warrenty. If not then Y buy MERC. I dont think H2O will sell for 90k if he just spent 110K ? Im just guessing on price. Thats a 20k hit ! If he takes 40 rides that $500 a ride plus fuel and insurance. So every time you go out its going to cost you $600 !! Must be nice

although there are a few nice boats out there...bottom line now is which one does the potential buyer consider to be "A DEAL"

A "deal" needs only be a deal in the mind of the man with the money. Any other "opinion" is just that, an opinion.
I've known Cary for many years, talked to him often when he was building his boat, he did a lot of researching to come up with what he felt was a good running and reliable package. He has added a lot of little things to create the overall package he now has. I've been out in the boat, and run with him a lot, and I'm impressed with what he has. Cary is the only one who knows exactly what costs were involved in his build, and I'm sure that factors into his asking price. His boat, Superboat for that matter, is unique, and because of that it's somewhat difficult to hone in on a true value. Were it a Fountain, just for example, it would be much easier, just because there are so many of them out there and they constantly turn over. Cary's boat will catch the eye of someone, an individual looking for something as unique as Cary was when he put this package together. That individual and Cary will determine the real value of this boat. That individual will get one of the most cared for boats on the market today. |

[ 1, used and on a budget ( we all start some where ) 2 , new and knows its the best deal out there ( stock merc. not many options.) also some what on a budget. The bulk of the buyers. 3, not many buyers at this price point, New and set up nice with all the goodies, and the cash to go Merc Racing motor. Why is the thought that if one can afford what he wants he is wrong. For me Merc. Racing works out best. |

Boats are all about loosing money! BOAT Stands for Break Out Another Thousand RITE !! Now loosing money and enjoying money are 2 different things ! The question is how much is a ride worth to someone ? Thats Y my boat is for sale ! I dont use it enough to make it worth keeping ! If my kids where older I mite use it more and at a faster pase. Cruzing around at 50 can get quite tiresome.

Someone that has the $$ to buy Merc Racing is certainly not, "wrong". I'm quite sure that Merc Racing sells more high performance marine engines than all others by a lot. That fact would indicate that more people share your view. If you got the money then what the hell... :p It's just my opinion that Merc Racing engines are over priced when compared to others. Remember, I'm one of the guys in category 1... You and I need to continue this debate over a drink or two. So when are we getting together?:ernaehrung004: |

I'll never try to figure out what'd cost to run my boat. I like to deny myself that kind of knowledge. I would prefer to have not done this calculation as Storm had suggested. But, I did it anyhow... I bought my boat 5 years ago and excluding gas and insurance I have in the neighborhood of 35K invested. She's worth maybe 15k today so thats 20K over 5 years or 4K per year. At 20 rides per year, i may be lucky enough to do a few more, that's $200 per ride. Holy crap! this is an expensive hobby... Worth every penny though!:cool-smiley-027: |
