You and me both...

My buddy Bobby and his wife stopped by to have a look at the carnage and to let me know he's going to be just fine.
Bob's wife has him all set up with the dentist tomorrow morning and with my insurance lady on Tuesday. I have plenty of liability coverage on the boat so all good on that front.
My injuries are minimal, just a bump on the head and a sore leg.
My head is still spinning with thoughts of what could have happened. The boat is probably totaled but I could honestly care less.
I’ll post some pictures in a couple of days once my thoughts are clear…

SUPERBASH 10-21-2007 04:08 PM

Good to hear from you Pat. Thanks for calling me . I didnt think a 24 could be stuffed or come apart. Now I know.http://i21.tinypic.com/egwjdy.gif

cuposterchild 10-21-2007 05:16 PM

Pat glad to hear everyone is okay. If you need anything let me know.

Pure Energy 10-21-2007 06:15 PM

OMG Pat!!! I'm glad no serious injuries!!!

OL40SVX 10-21-2007 06:18 PM

Pat, glad to hear you and your passenger are ok. Anthony told me about it at the ramp. It must have happened right after we passed each other on the river. Sorry about the boat as well. It seems like a lot of damage. Thats too bad. It was a great running boat! It was a great day on the river as well and great to see everyone!!!

Dan

Pat, Glad to hear you and Bob are ok, can't believe she came apart on you, I've seen you run some real big water in the sound without any trouble. I have an old resin bucket and some glass kicking around in the shop if you need to borrow just let me know, sounds like a good winter project.

YES glad everyone is generally ok get well guys!

TeamSaris 10-21-2007 06:48 PM

Glad everyone is alright Pat. If we can help in any way let me know.

Pat McPherson 10-21-2007 07:14 PM

Thanks for all of the nice thoughts and offers.
I'll post some pics this week, but believe me when I tell yea, the hull and deck are done.
Depending on how the insurance company handles the loss, I may be stripping the running gear to sell off or use on another hull in the future.
Right now, I'm just thanking the big guy upstairs that we didn't get seriously hurt, or worse.

supper 10-21-2007 09:57 PM

Pat ,like i said get well , curious what r your thoughts on how the boat handled the incident ?

H2oscene 10-22-2007 06:28 AM

Pat, sorry to here about the boat, glad you guys are not seriously hurt... FX10 is the only one to put it back together if at all possible... The new 30Y2K with the Stainlees Rub Rail according to Rick is screwed, through bolted and glassed at the deck/ hull seam... When he was doing it he was showing me step by step what he was doing and was very into it... Now I know why ...

z.zuperboat 10-22-2007 06:51 AM

Pat hope you got my call ! I guess even the most experianced boater can get into trouble !! I know the first thing you did when you got home was kiss your kids !! Im glad all walked away safely !! With something other than a superboat it mite have been worse !! You need something call !!

Sonic30ss 10-22-2007 07:18 AM

Pat,
I could have sworn that it was you going past Brewers, I guess I was hoping it was you. I am very happy you were not seriously injured.

Dave M 10-22-2007 07:25 AM

Glad there were no serious injuries!

I let my daughter sit in the front most of the time and this type of scenario always looms in my mind.

If your boat is considered "totalled" usually the insurance company will let you buy it back for the salvage value.

Yes, I'm sure that Rick could rebuild the boat with a new deck but I'm quite sure it would not be worth the $$ and all of the effort. I took some pics and I'll post them later.
As for the hull and deck joint, it was just screwed, not glassed together. Rick didn't build my boat, it is a 1997.

Again, thanks to everyone for their thoughts and offers.

Hi Joe,
You probably saw Peter (White 28' Pantera) bring Bobby into the town dock.
Yes, I did motor the boat back into Chester creek, but you would have noticed the damage.

Hi Dave,
I'm quite sure that you would not push the envelope like I was with your kids in the boat.
Yes, the insurance company said that I could keep the boat for the salvage value. We'll just have to see what that number is.

SUPERBASH 10-22-2007 04:19 PM

Super Boat ???

I cant believe it. Mine wasn't glassed in the bow. I always thought they all were.
Mine wasnt built by Rick either but like I said I always thought ALL SUPERBOATS were. http://i20.tinypic.com/9j0mk2.gif

Constrction Methods: The hull and deck are glassed together at the bump rail ....

Bash is gonna just have to do something about that .... http://i22.tinypic.com/11jpv7k.gif

Yup, if I were you, I'd be having JC and Rick take care of that.

SUPERBASH 10-22-2007 04:34 PM

jayhawk261 10-22-2007 04:39 PM

Wow Pat!! I just read this thread for the first time in a few days! We're glad you guys are ok. I think I would have $hit myself in that situation! We are a long ways a way, but if we can help out in any way, please let me know. Take it easy and let everything heal before you get too active.

z.zuperboat 10-22-2007 06:38 PM

My 30,s not glassed in the very front either!! My guess is because the deck hardware lights/cleats where installed before the 2 went together !! Now going around is tough in a very confined space. It,s on my winter project list now. Always knew about it but never gave it any thought !!

tomcei 10-23-2007 05:08 AM

Pat,
Just read the post, WOW!! Glad your OK. You really wern't kidding when you told me you've broken every boat you've had. I hope you feel better soon, physically and mentally.
Tom

krakmeup 10-23-2007 06:51 AM

Wow Pat!!! So glad to hear you two are alright. Very scary, and yes, it can happen to anyone out there, for sure. Pictures will say thousands of words, but for now its time to reflect and be grateful, as you said. I've been away on business for several days and just found this thread......take care and keep us updated.

This is how Rick glassed the Hull to the Deck... The deck is thru bolted to the Hull, The Rub Rails white base is screwed and thru bolted thru the deck and hull, then the stainless Steel rail is screwed and thru bolted thru the deck and hull Finally the inside of the hull/deck joint is glassed over and then gelcoated... Lots of Stainless Steel... The white plastic rails which are less money are only a single screw process with about half the screws and thru bolts...

Some more photos of the Deck/Hull process... It costs a little more to get the extras but I let Rick know that the boat would be in the Ocean Jumping waves... Rick if your around did I miss anything???

SUPERBASH 10-23-2007 05:45 PM

"When the deck is finally installed, all contact points with the hull & deck are glassed together. This ties the hull & deck as one unified structureunable to twist under severe stress it was built to withstand. This time tested method of engineering & installation is one of the most important factors of the lightness & indestructability of a SUPERBOAT hull.

John H2O (MY fellow superboat wavejumper). I dont read glassing the bow is an extra on a SUPERBOAT. http://i20.tinypic.com/2liht9y.gif

SB its more like the Entire Stainless Steel Rub Rail installation that is 'extra" about $1000 plus adding a greater freqency of the thru bolts instead of screws... Rick really got into it... I now know that the SS Rub Rail is not just a decoration and takes triple the time of the standard white rail installation...

Vary nice illustration of how a performance boat should be built. The man that put yours together did it right.
By the way, mine was not through bolted either. I do notice that Superbash's boat does have some through bolts.

Yes, this is the type of propaganda that lead me to buying a Superboat.

SUPERBASH 10-24-2007 03:59 AM

John. I know. I'm talking about standard SUPERBOAT construction methods not a custom Y2K rub rail install.
P.S. I might have to chill out on getting "radical" with you till mine is done properly.http://i20.tinypic.com/2liht9y.gif
