Default Y2K Hatch Scoop

Any suggestions on a hatch for my Y2K? I have the old style flat hatch.....

I need an additional 2"'s of height 30"'s wide to clear the headers & flame arrester.... the new style hatch scoop I'm told is only 27"'s wide?

What to do?

Hey Gary,

I can measure mine when I get a chance.

What do have going on up there? Repower?

Curious, Are you running a LH or RH prop? I was reading through some old Y2K prop threads and there was some talk of LH props running better.

Dave

I run RH props Dave.... never tried lefty's? I'd appreciate your taking that measurement.... I need to know if the hatch is wider then the top of the headers?

I don't think the hatch is wider than the headers. With a 525, I don't think the scoop is really needed. A flat hatch would still clear the headers.

Take a look ....

My flat hatch won't clear these headers.... but those pics look like that scoop hatch might work... the flat hatch isn;t really flat... it bows in the middle and has less clearence on the outsides where the headers are.... these pics look like the scoop hatch doesn't have as much bow as the flat hatch?

Gary, measured the scoop today. it's 29.5" wide. As Dave said, a 525 fits under the flat hatch with CMI headers with no problem. Even Gary's with Superbabi, who has a 560ci 800+HP Ron Potter motor with CMI headers had no problem with clearance for the headers. The clearance problem was with the intakes which were taller and needed the scoop. The crown with both the flat and scooped version of the hatch are the same.
As for props. All new Y2K's are rigged Lefty. Seems to work better, and stops the left lean on the hull.

Thanks for your help.... my headers are the Competition series two piece Big Tube & do sit higher then the one piece... looks like I'll end up cutting the hatch up a bit.... where there's a will theres a way!

Thanks again!

Figure out how high and wide you need to be. Then have Rick make you a bolt on Y2K scoop. With out putting the 2 scoops side by side noone will ever know. He has the mold, pop out the scoop cut it stretch it regel it grip sets to bolt it on and finished.

I'm good with that.... Rick you good with that? Perhaps he can start with the flat hatch I already have?
