cuposterchild 05-10-2011 09:27 PM

Was out on a test drive but wasn't in a Superboat :( New boat will be fun but not in the same league as the old 24. Dave boat looks GREAT!

noli 05-11-2011 12:54 PM

It was pretty flat yesterday plus I wasn't moving when the pic was snapped. :drink:

Ive been out only once and that was to move the boat from the trailer to the lift. Popped the heads off over the winter for a 100hr inspection. New roller lifters and valve springs. All is well . Decided to take some boost out that was just swapping some pullies.

Ha-Ha! It was in there from the previous owner. Although, I've always keep a paddle in all my boats. You're probably right, it's not going to do much with the Y2K. It might be enough to keep me in the tide.

When you get a chance find the calmest water you can find sit on the bow and see if you can move it with the paddle .. Would be a funny site to see and make for a great picture . I tried to move the 24 with a paddle , last day I ever carried a paddle with me lol !
I thought it might be mandatory and that's why you had it in there . You never know what some state laws are . Great pic's though !!!

Anybody have any good ideas for a swim ladder on a Y2K? Yesterday I was just lifting the kids up onto the platform but I need a better plan. In deep water, I'm not sure if I could get back into the boat. I'm afraid that stepping on the tabs or drive is going to ultimately end in injury.

I'm wondering if I can access the inside of the swim platform through the holes in the engine compartment. So, I can through bolt a ladder of some sort.

I keep staring at mine trying to figure that out too. There is a thread on here where I read JC said it was not strong enough for a ladder. But I have to believe someone has bolted a ladder to one of these things. I was thinking maybe one of those dive ladders on a corner maybe or even making a hatch in the bottom of the platform to add a backing plate for a regular fold down ladder.

Dave M 05-31-2011 05:18 PM

I'm wondering if this would work. Thru-bolted from the top of the platform. The bolts would probably need to be 6-8" long.

You would have to put some kind of spacer between the two halves I think, otherwise it would be sort of like squeezing an egg and I think the gel would crack.

Superbabi 05-31-2011 07:25 PM

Ted some photos of your Y2k would be nice !!!:grinser010:

I took a look last night and I'm thinking it would be difficult, but possible to thru bolt with backing plates to the lower part of the platform via the holes in the engine compartment. I think I can get my arm in there just far enough. Having the backing plates threaded, or welding the nuts onto the plate might make the job easier.

I just talked to JC and he didn't recommend either of my plans. I think I'm going to have to go ghetto and get one of those gunnel ladders. Beats a trip to the ER.

Maybe a rope ladder? store it under the back seat?

That might work on the side of the boat except it could scratch the gelcoat. Maybe stick a towel underneath it?

I was think about something like this, the only contact it should make with the side of the boat is the two little feet, and they have rubber caps on them.

Dave how it is not strong enough...what about stainless steel plates on the top and bottom of the plaform to spread out the stress and through bolt all the way through something that mounts on top or below? Same kinda deal for backing plates on cleats under the fiberglass or on lifting rings

cuposterchild 06-01-2011 02:27 PM

anywhere on the edges of the rear corners that might be strong enough to mount a bracket for one of these?
http://www.wholesalemarine.com/mm5/g...R-19803_lg.jpg
Seen it done on some fountains(although heard it was tough to get to the bolts to tighten them down.

That's what I was thinking. But, the bottom part of the platform is a seperate piece, not part of the hull mold. I guess it's not too thick according to JC.

cuposterchild 06-01-2011 02:35 PM

Just becareful with those ones with the little "feet" that rest against the side of the boat....lot of pressure on those two little Nubs against the fiberglass.

Thought about those too. Problem there is you need a flat surface to mount the bracket.

I wouldn't be wild about those that have feet that rest against the boat.... but the rope hooked to one of the pop up cleats could be enough to get you up to the back seat? One thing I carry that has come in real handy are a couple "Yoga Mats"... I roll them out on the engine hatch to keep it from getting scratched & they are not slippery.... could roll it over the side with the ladder?

cuposterchild 06-01-2011 02:48 PM

This sucks because the lack of a sunpad I can get around easy (along the lines of GRH's solution) but no good way getting in and out would be a deal breaker for me as we like to get out at the sandbar and are always jumping in and out of the boat. I am thinking MAYBE a through bolted close to flush mount grab rail on the back below the hatch and then a PWC rope ladder. BUT I haven't been upclose to a Y2K in some time and cannot remember what kind of clearence there is underneath the rear of the hatch as it open.

GRH 06-01-2011 03:00 PM

I come & go in the water using the K -Planes for footing... but I am very aware of that prop & would not be comfortable letting young kids do the same.... you can board the Y2K from the back in the water if you are very careful... I just wouldn;t let a young child or someone unfamilar with the boat back there... one slip & its a hospital trip!

Same here. That's why I am so intent on finding a solution. Another thing that makes my situation worse is that I have ITS, so the drive sticks out an extra 7" or so.

I think any kind of rope ladder used in the back would have a tendancy to swing under the platform when weight is applied to it.

Oh, and I got a few real nice plush bath rugs that I use on my hatch. They have the rubber stuff on the backside.

I was thinking the rope ladder off the back side near the back seat? Maybe the back side corner?

I think I will give that a try. It's the cheapest and least intrusive option. So, I don't really have much to loose.
