depth transducer + y2k?
should I avoid drilling a hole in the bottom (yikes!) and go with a transom mount?
anyone else running a garmin transom mount transducer? -Ross |
I had a transom mounted transducer on my 24 and it never worked above a fast idle. Plus, you still have to drill a hole for the cable to pass through, and it looks crappy.
My 30 has the transducer in the bilge. It seems to work better but not perfect. It would proably be hard to install with the motor in the boat. |
here's the procedure for making a thru-hull transducer sending area

Has anyone mounted it in the cabin before the first step?
Is there coring all over the place such that I'd have to use the hole saw technique? That's scary. |
Go to this link. Then go to post 206 and 240. I will shot how to remove the balsa core, 2 ply's and glass it over. The balsa core is removed with a 3 1/2 inch hole saw. But the pilot drill is only used to start the hole. Once started, lower or remove the pilot drill to avoid drilling through the hull. This is for a shoot through transducer.
